I didn't notice the smell but I usually put a scented lotion over it after it dries. I usually only use it on my legs in the summer when I am a little more tan. I'm always scared of self tanners making me look orange and streaking, but this had a pretty color. Wash your hands really well after you put it on I had a friend who didn't and it made her hands look really orange.
