Pigment Texture-- Blue Steel/Dark Soul
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that not all the MAC pigments have the same texture?? I got Dark Soul as a sample and it was really...chunky. That's the only way I can think to describe it. It was a complete disaster trying to use it. I love the color and I got a perfect amount in my jar, but it wasn't as finely milled as some others I have. I also got Steel Blue yesterday and I saw it looked a little chunky too. I have a few other piggies and they seem to be better in texture and easier to work with, like Old Gold and Violet. If anyone else has noticed this, is there a way to make it easier to work with or did I get a bad batch or what??

Re: Pigment Texture-- Blue Steel/Dark Soul
I don't know about Dark Soul, but Steel Blue is just like that.
Unfortunately some of the pigments just have a chunkier texture.
I don't know all of them, but definitely avoid Rose and Kitschmas if the chunky texture bothers you.
I've hardly touched Steel Blue, Kitschmas, and Rose for this reason.

Re: Pigment Texture-- Blue Steel/Dark Soul
Yes, a lot of them have different textures. For the "chunkier" pigments, I use them wet. It seems to help a bit. Dark Soul doesn't seem chunky to me. Steel Blue, Kitschmas, Rose, Helium, Frost, Copper Sparkle, Rushmetal (I'm sure I'm missing some) are all pretty chunky.

Yep, tey all have different textures just like the shadows. Some are chunky, some are smooth, some are chalky, it all depends.

Re: Pigment Texture-- Blue Steel/Dark Soul
Yeah they're different. My gold mode pigment has the best texture and the violet has the worst, at least for me because it's so chalky. I'd just experiment with different brushes to see what's best.

Re: Pigment Texture-- Blue Steel/Dark Soul
different textures give different finishes, just like with shadows, blushes, foundations, etc.

Oh yeah, using them wet definitely helps.
I use homemade MM and work the pigment into a good consistency (for me, a fairly wet paste).

Re: Pigment Texture-- Blue Steel/Dark Soul
i swapped dark soul because it was waaaaay too chalky for my taste. I have the same problem with Naked -- I love the color as a base or a wash when i'm super lazy, but it is so freakin' hard to work with!!
