It's so weird because I love the thunder quad so much, but I totally passed on the laze quad. It was just blehh. And aren't 3 of the colours regular ones anyhow? I mean, what's the fun in that. I buy LE quads to get LE colours. I guess it would be good for a completely neutral look.

as stated before by someone the catherine quads are used in conjuction to create looks. I love this quad for its softness, laze to me is a a great shadow, i guess im just tired of frost and such for now. All in all tho, its a good quad.

I bought this and the Thunder Quad but then brought the Laze quad back as it was just too neutral - there was nothing special about it and I got the guilts at having two quads! I like the idea of having a neutral quad though so you have all the colours there to do a neutral look but it just lacked something for me.

I passed on it because of the 3 permanant colors in the quad. The colors are nice, but I can pick them up anytime.

You're right, compared to the thunder eyes (which I love), the laze eyes quad just seems so boring. I didn't even give it a second glance. Not to mention that most of the colours on the quad are way too light for my colouring (NW45).

I wouldn't say that it's boring at all. It's a neutral quad that's designed to compliment the dramatic Thunder quad - the two work together. I purchased it because I can never have enough pretty, non-blah neutrals in my kit.
I think everyone expects any special release to be packed full of extreme colour, and then gets disappointed when MAC opts for an elegant, adult release. You can't have one without the other

Exactly. Not everything from MAC has to be bright and intense.

The way I understood it is that the intention behind the quads being so different is because they are meant to be used together to create lots of different looks.

I passed on it. It was pretty just not the kind of shades that I wear frequently.

You know, I got it for the sheer reason that I am a quad whore.
When it came in the mail, it got tossed aside for it's pretty sister Thunder (which is as pretty on as it looks in the pan - I love it too).
Then I decided to play with Laze. Let me say, wow. It is so much prettier on than it looks, and all of the colors go so well with one another. It is really pretty, and it may be the quad I use the most (and I own them all). I never would have anticipated how much I would come to love this quad my just looking at it.

I had 2 of the 3 regular shades, so I passed on this one, too.

I think it's a good quad for basic looks. Boring maybe, but useful. What did turn me off about this quad was that it wasn't unique in the slightest, and I don't think shades have to be colorful or frosty to be unique. 3 of the shades were part of the regular collection and Laze didn't strike me as anything unique at all (looked like a cross between Quarry and Mink Pink). The best shade of the quad was Shale (which you can buy by itself), the rest looked like shades you could acquire from anywhere. Which isn't a crime in itself, but it seems strange to promote such a quad as a part of a new collection. It seems like something that would mainly appeal to people who don't own much makeup and need a few staples.

your right, personally my expectations of LE quads are high, hence the disappointment

I.E, new customers. Brand loyalty is an important thing for a beauty company, so anything that lets new customers experience MAC product without being put off by intense colour (face it, a majority of women would look at the Thunder quad and go, 'ahaha, gosh no') is a good thing. The broader their product can appeal, the more customers they can reach.
Besides, I don't think the Icon collection is really about what hardcore colour lovers want, it's a collection designed to reflect and appeal the elegance, sophistication and style of a particular iconic woman, light and dark. There's something for everyone there.
