Anybody on MakeupAlley? *mini rant, kinda funny*
For those of you who are on MUA, I'm sure this has happened to you, and if it hasn't it probably will.
So, I have a Gucci Rush Summer ltd edition fragrance, and I've been getting requests for it for like 7 months, but I just havent found anything that grabs my attention. But this chick on MUA has sent me probably 11 requests for it. The first couple of times I said I wasn't interested and for her to update me if she adds anything to her w/l. She did a couple more times, but it was like a generic copy/pasted swap request i.e. "Hey there, I'd love to have this item! PLMK either way if there's anything on my list you're interested in!!" Messages like that usually indicate to me that the person is just copy pasting their email. I'll admit that I do it too, but for the most part I try to be a little more personalized when I send an email to anyone.
So anyway, today I get another swap request from this same chick, and I had ignored the previous 8 or 9 of them. And I just got fed up with getting that same tired email week after week, so I politely told her that I wasn't interested in swapping, and that I'd appreciate it if she didn't send me that same request anymore, as I'd gotten it numerous times. She got really bent out of shape and said that I'm gonna "sit on that fragrance until it goes rancid." That's my right, but it won't go rancid I might start using it as I've grown a tad fond of it after giving it a 2nd and 3rd chance. So our email exchanges have been pretty comical. I can just picture some girl in Who Cares, Utah or wherever just sitting behind her computer fuming because I won't swap my fragrance with her, and embarrassed that I called her out on being an annoying swap robot with her recycled email. In her last message she told me not to bother responding any longer, and that she'll remember me in case I ever send her a swap request.
Clearly, I won't send a swap request, since I made it clear 10 times that she had nothing I want lol
Has anything funny happened to you on MUA or another website/discussion board etc that just made you go "Are you serious?"
I would post the emails, but I'd rather not just in case the person is a member here, the screenname would be attached and I'm pretty respectful of privacy.

Pestering people has probably gotten her a few items that she wanted, so she continues to do it. That would have annoyed me as well.

I really don't understand the swap and sale thing here or on the other side. I have a lot makeup that I want to get rid of. It all very good stuff (MAC, Bobbie Brown, and Christian Dior). My husband tells me not to do anything with the internet. When I see this, it gets me scared he may be right.

That's hilarious! This has never happened to me but I can kind of tell when somebody is sending me a generic request. Just b/c you aren't swapping with HER, it's going to go rancid. lol. right.

Re: Anybody on MakeupAlley? *mini rant, kinda funny*
Swap/sell on the internet has been relatively harmless thus far for me. I did get swaplifted by a girl in Singapore, but myself and the others involved filed charges, so she eventually did send our things back to us.
If you have things to get rid of, MUA is a good way to trade things you no longer want or need for new things you wanna try out or things you can no longer buy. I get mostly DC/LE MAC on mua or skincare i wanna try but can't afford.
So yeah, she told me to "get a life." lol

LOL. People are funny. I got a negative on ebay because a bidder won a cell phone I listed. He said I was backing out of the tranaction because I didn't get what I wanted for the phone. The phone was lost in Katrina, later recovered when the water drained. I started to send it to him--mold and all. What's even better? Do you know some of the people on the ebay board said that it was my fault because I didn't pack it when I left?

I actually just started getting into the whole MUA swap thing and I've had a few negotiations with some of them but no matter how much I want the items they're willing to swap me with..in the end, it's just not worth the trouble anymore especially that the shipping costs are so frickin' high!! Honestly, I'd rather buy the items on my wishlist on Ebay coz the cost just ends up the same!

Re: Anybody on MakeupAlley? *mini rant, kinda funny*
I don't have a swap list on MUA, but there are a couple of chicks who always message me after I've written a review on, say, a lipglass and offering to swap for it.
A.) I don't swap, and
B.) If I did, I doubt a Maybelline lipgloss is going to cut it.

Re: Anybody on MakeupAlley? *mini rant, kinda funny*
I get ridiculous swap requests all the time on MUA; people who send them repeatedly just get put on my ignore list
The first thing on my notepad says "wishlist please" in capital, bold print, 20 point font. The second thing it says is that I live in New Zealand. And anyone who actually bothers to read the rest of the notepad knows that I won't respond to requests that just say "wanna swap" or "please look at my list." But I continue to get requests like this on a daily basis.
I know some people get carried away with their notepads and basically put in their entire life story. But mine is short; it would about a minute to read, and people just won't do it. So I feel no guilt about ignoring requests from people who clearly didn't read before sending a generic request.
Some of the requests are downright comical, though. Most of my stuff is MAC and NARS, but I constantly get requests from people who have nothing to swap but used lipgloss/mascara from Maybelline and CoverGirl. Like anybody in their right mind is going to do this? Some of the drug store products are quite good, but it makes no sense to swap higher end stuff for it when you could just go buy it new for less. And I absolutely wouldn't swap for a used liquid eye or lip product under any circumstances.
The most recent crazy request I got was for a NYX eyeshadow single on my list. It retails new for $3 and it's been used a couple of times. It's basically on my list as a swap evener. For me to ship this item from New Zealand to the US would cost more than $5. She sent me the request 2-3 times before I finally blocked her.
So no, I'm not even surprised by the swap weirdness that other people have mentioned in this thread

I'm glad I've never gotten into the whole swapping thing. I've heard too many horror stories.

Re: Anybody on MakeupAlley? *mini rant, kinda funny*
A girl just confirmed a swap with me while I was out of town, and since I didn't email her back within 48 hours, she cancelled it, relisted her items and "blocked" me from emailing her.
SPAZZ MUCH?! I really wanted that damn cleanser!
