Blush eyesafe?
I have a blush in a sheertone shimmer. It is called lovecrush, and is a nice deep purple colour. I dropped it the other day and it shattered. I squashed the remains into a fine powder, and would like to use it as a loose shadow. I have checked everywhere, but can't find any info on this one. Do you think it would be eyesafe? Thanks.

Blushes are not safe for use in the eye-area.

Oops. I've used some Lancome blushes as eyeshadow a few times. It stung a bit when putting it on, but it stopped.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to know because I've had MA's use blush on my eyes lots of times. In fact, Make up for ever does it all the time. They might have a different formulation though.

I've never had a problem and I do know many MA's that use blush in the eye area but I've been told that most of them are not eye safe due to a red dye in many of them.

when they say it's not eye safe it just means u cant put it IN ur eyes right... so if ur really careful can u use it in the eye area?

For the most part but,
Some people could have a bad reaction to it being on their eye area skin. It could burn, they could breakout in a rash, make their eyes swell up etc...

Non-eye safe means not for use in the eye area, which includes the lid, lashline, lower lashline, waterline, and brow area.

Blush and eye un-safe
I just bought today my first mac blush ( gingerly ) and I saw in the back of the box that it says: " Not be used in the eye area ".

I would like to know if this aplies to every blush or not.
Why theyre not eye safe?

I though the color wa pretty to be used as an eye shadow also....

thanks

Blushes are not eye-safe for a variety of factors, including:
  • that they contain pigments and dyes which are not approved for eye-area use
  • they often contain pigments and dyes which are not only not approved for eye-area use, but are also known irritants or caustics to the eye area and other mucus membrane tissues
  • they are not always tested in their final formats for eye-safety, as their intended use is not as an eye product -or- they have been tested and found to not be eye-safe for the same reasons that pigments and other products may not be eye-safe (see the product safety FAQ or the bottom of the precautions list for more info on this)

There are the rare few blushes that are eye-safe, though they are few and far between (MAC had an eyeshadow which consistanly had a bad reaction percentage in testing, and in consumer response and it was pulled and later re-formulated into a blush). As a general rule, blushes are not eye safe. They are not required to be comprised of eye-safe pigments and dyes, and because they are freed from that restriction they can achieve the variety of bright reds and pinks that they do.

MakeUpForEver blushes can be used as eyeshadows because its the same formulation as the eyeshadows.
