Doctors Warn Customers About Mineral-Based Makeup Claims
This was on my local news network and thought I would share. If you follow the source link, there is a video of the actual report.

Doctors Warn Customers About Mineral-Based Makeup Claims

WASHINGTON -- Mineral makeup is the latest craze in cosmetics.

Mineral-based cosmetics are powder foundations made with pulverized minerals, like zinc and titanium. Manufacturers say these products are natural and free of fragrances and preservatives, which can be harmful to the skin, causing irritation and allergies.

Some people tout mineral makeup's health benefits. Sephora makeup artist Jerry Hutchinson said the products are easier to apply and can actually save people time.

"It is a fast and easy way to achieve a perfected face without a lot of time and effort and feeling like you have a bunch of makeup on your face," he said. However, some people warn of false claims about the makeup. "The important thing to know is that these products are not FDA regulated," said Georgetown University Hospital dermatologist Dr. Paula Bourelly. "So just because it says 'mineral based,' does not mean it is automatically free of fragrances and preservatives. You really have to read not only the label, but read the ingredient list." Bourelly said that even though zinc is a natural sun block, simply applying the makeup to your face isn't enough protection. There's also been some research warning that since these minerals are so finely ground, it's easier for them to be absorbed into the body and affect the lungs, News4's Eun Yang reported.

We really should be more careful about trusting companies that tell us their product is good for us. We all know who many corporations have lied throughout the years in an effort to make more money. What it comes down to is that we must be smart consumers and research what we are buying not just listening to "THEY" .

I'm a sucker for things like this. If its the latest craze that's supposed to be good for you, i'll pretty much try it without question. I definitly should be more careful about what i'm putting on my skin.

This is exactly why I don't buy anything that claims to be 'pure' mineral make-up. I tried one of those, even tried my hand at making them, but being the asthmatic that I am, I almost got an attack. :| I'd rather go to the trouble of using primer to minimize the contact of make-up to my skin at least, rather than using those pure ones.

Re: Doctors Warn Customers About Mineral-Based Makeup Claims
When bare minerals was first introduced, I wanted to get it soo bad but the reason I ended up not getting it was because I read a whole bunch of reviews from women claiming that they used it and some got an allergic reaction, others got breakout and stuff like that.Who knows what's in their products
