Doctors Warn Customers About Mineral-Based Makeup Claims
This was on my local news network and thought I would share. If you follow the source link, there is a video of the actual report.

Doctors Warn Customers About Mineral-Based Makeup Claims

WASHINGTON -- Mineral makeup is the latest craze in cosmetics.

Mineral-based cosmetics are powder foundations made with pulverized minerals, like zinc and titanium. Manufacturers say these products are natural and free of fragrances and preservatives, which can be harmful to the skin, causing irritation and allergies.

Some people tout mineral makeup's health benefits. Sephora makeup artist Jerry Hutchinson said the products are easier to apply and can actually save people time.

"It is a fast and easy way to achieve a perfected face without a lot of time and effort and feeling like you have a bunch of makeup on your face," he said. However, some people warn of false claims about the makeup. "The important thing to know is that these products are not FDA regulated," said Georgetown University Hospital dermatologist Dr. Paula Bourelly. "So just because it says 'mineral based,' does not mean it is automatically free of fragrances and preservatives. You really have to read not only the label, but read the ingredient list." Bourelly said that even though zinc is a natural sun block, simply applying the makeup to your face isn't enough protection. There's also been some research warning that since these minerals are so finely ground, it's easier for them to be absorbed into the body and affect the lungs, News4's Eun Yang reported.

Re: Doctors Warn Customers About Mineral-Based Makeup Claims
We really should be more careful about trusting companies that tell us their product is good for us. We all know who many corporations have lied throughout the years in an effort to make more money. What it comes down to is that we must be smart consumers and research what we are buying not just listening to "THEY" .
