that is true - however if you just concern yourself about the lead in lipstick you are missing a bigger picture.
many of the dyes used in makeup are also approved for use in food - with the same level of contaminant approved.
example: Red F&C No6 is approved for use in food and cosmetics. the allowable lead contamination is 20ppm in this dye. yes - you'll consume it if you use lipstick with this dye... but there will also be lead contaminant in any food that uses this dye as a food colouring.
the amount of contaminant in food will be smaller, but we also consume a lot more food than we do lipstick.
our intake of chemicals and contaminants is not limited to cosmetics, they are in practically every food we eat as well. the panic caused over contaminants in cosmetics sometimes ignores the fact that these same contaminants are added to our food.
