mixing medium allergy?
hi! i got myself a few products in america which i wanted to use yesterday. maybe i did something wrong, i dont know. i basically wanted to mix landscape green piggie with crystalled lime glitter and the eyeliner mixing medium together. i did use quite a lot of the mm so i wonder if that was the part i did wrong. anyways my eye started burning like hell after i put it on so i couldnt stand it no longer and hat to wipe it off (it wouldnt stop) it felt as if i had acid on my eyelid or something. btw it took some time after it stopped hurting completely. now i wonder if i had to take less of the mm or if the glitter isnt eyesafe, or if i just have an allergy on it. i dont know, im really scared to try it again, but i would need that stuff has anyone else experienced that?
what do you think?

Re: mixing medium allergy?
Sometimes, I have the same issue with eyeliner mixing medium. It slightly tingles on my eyelids for just a minute and then goes away. Lately, I've been mixing some pigments with a drop of the eyeliner mixing medium and using it as a base on my lids. Even when I mix with pigment to turn into an eyeliner, it tingles for a minute. I'm not sure what we're doing wrong here, but someone on here suggested to me that it may be because of whatever we use to take our eye makeup off with? Perhaps if you use eye makeup remover, it might have some harsh stuff inside of it and then if you do your eyes after, it may have left some residue on your eyes, causing it react with whatever is in the mixing medium. I always use a little drop of the mixing medium, cause a little goes a long way.
I'm not really sure though, just thought I would add my 2 cents since the same thing happens to me

Re: mixing medium allergy?
yeah me and the eyeliner mixing medium do not get on!! it stings like hell when i put it on - all over the lid or just as liner when mixed with my pigments. In the end i decided my eyes are too sensitive and i no longer use it. yet wondered if i'll be better off with the water based mixing medium.

Re: mixing medium allergy?
If the pigments/glitters you are using are not eye safe, then this is going to happen. I know the glitter you are using is not eye safe, and I'm thinking the Landscape Green pigment might not be either. I'd try using it with an eye safe pigment, and see if it still happens.

Re: mixing medium allergy?
I thought I was the only one. It feels like a tingle for quite a bit actually, but then it goes away. I would use the water based mixing medium. It works good too. just use an eyeliner brush and it will work just as good.

That's a good point!
I used it with Tan pigment the other day (this has gotta be eye safe, right? I use it all the time) and it tingled then too.
Maybe there are just some of us out there who are sensitive to it

Re: mixing medium allergy?
It's probably the MM. Use a little bit or try changing to either not the eyeliner one, or possibly making your own.

Landscape green is eye safe.

I use the water-based MM, and with some of my pigments it tingles on me too, but on the eye safe ones it doesn't??

That's weird. I asked another Specktra user about this, cause she had a great idea to mix the eyeliner mixing medium with pigments (bless her!) to use as bases and when I told her that my eyelids tingled for a minute, she said she'd never had that happen to her.

Re: mixing medium allergy?
the water based mixing medium tingles on me a little bit. At first I was alarmed and had to double check to make sure I was using the water based and sure enough I was. I can't remember if the piggies I was using was eye safe or not. I'll have to try a piggie I know for sure is eyesafe (i.e. Tan) and see if it does that.

Re: mixing medium allergy?
alright. thx to all the answers for now. it really didnt only tingle, it hurt me badly... so i wonder if im to sensitive. i will try it with eyesafe pigments next time ( maybe it was the glitter i used) and mixing it with a smaller amount of MM cause i really squished alot on the piggies last time. i wonder if that makes a change. i will keep you notified.

Re: mixing medium allergy?
Maybe the glitter scratched your eyelids or something?? Because it's so fine, you may not have realized it was doing it until it started burning. Then the mm probably caused the irritation to burn. Landscape Green is eye safe, but the glitter is definitely not.
Give it a week or so and be gentle on your eyelids for a while. Then try again in just a little spot on your eyelid with an eye safe pigment.

Re: mixing medium allergy?
I have never had good luck with the water based mm. it stings and my eyes end up with this aching feeling until I wash it off. I have much better luck with eyeliner mm and my MAC mua said there are soothing ingredients in the eyeliner mm. She also said that this reaction is not uncommon and she tells people to try fix+ instead.
I love fix+ but it doesn't keep color in place the way the mixing mediums do so that is one drawback. Mostly I stick with fix+ or use eyeliner mm in very small amounts.
