Re: Newspaper Article - Cosmetic effect is harmful
There have been several articles published in the past several days based on this guy's alarmist claims. But it's no revelation that there is nasty stuff in cosmetics -- if you were to look up the safety data on any given ingredient in most department store cosmetics you'd find that they're toxic, skin irritant and carcinogenic. Hardly a surprise since there is no regulation of cosmetic ingredients in this country. But if you look at the big picture, the nasties we absorb from our body lotion really pales in comparison to the nasties in the food we eat and the air we breathe. If anything, I think it's worth it to invest in an organic body lotion, just because most of us slather ourselves in an ounce or two daily. Otherwise I personally think it's a case of picking your poison.. using MAC can't be any worse than drinking or smoking or driving

I think the very fact that this biochemist sells organic products is a cause for skepticism - of course he wants people to question non-organic cosmetics.

the discussion about SLS and the parabens annoys me to no end. and the fact that the journalist just quoted one man, who *surprise* sells cosmetics himself, is no good journalism, if you ask me.
