Angry Proactiv bleach?? *read*
Hi! Im new to this site but I really like it so far! I put this under product safety because it seemed to fit. I have been using proactiv and it seems to be working well on my face but, I have been noticeing that my baby blue pillow cases have been faded/bleached looking with almost a pinkish color. I thought maybe it was because I had dyed my hair but it kept happening to my other cases as well! I washed my face last night with a purple wash cloth and my mom came to me this morning asking what happened to the wash cloth I looked at it and it looks like it had been bleached as well. I was wondering if proactiv has something that would make this happen and if its happened to anyone else?? Thanks!

Yep, the benzoyl peroxide in it will bleach the color out of anything! I always were an old white t-shirt to bed and use a pillowcase that is white, or i dont' care about.
Make sure you also wear sunscreen on your face when you go out to, since it causes your skin to be super-sensitive to light.

I've got a whole mess o' seperate towels and a hair band. And it's bleaching out my eyebrows - but it's also keeping me zit free so I'm fully prepared to suck it up. I believe they also make it with salycylic acid which won't bleach (but it's the same stuff they use for wart removal so I'm afraid of it!!)

my friend had that problem, one day she comes up to me and shoves her collar in my face, look it's bleached, bleached! Then she started cursing proactive. it was funny. but that does suck.

I just re-checked my proactive "product insert" and they do warn you that it might bleach hair, clothing, etc etc.

That's strange, I've never had that problem. Sorry it didn't go over too well for you.

yeah it does that you just have to be extra careful. My bf uses proactiv and his favorite shirt was bleached from it. He didnt know how probably because when he was washing his face some of it splashed on to it. But yeah unfortunately proactiv does bleach clothes and other fabrics.

Yup it sure does. It has a high % of benzoyl peroxide, which is what causes fabrics to discolour. You should see my bed sheets...

No need to worry about salicylic acid, it is a naturally occuring compound from which drugs such as aspirin are made. The reason it is in wart medications is because it has analgesic properties (kills pain), anti-inflammatory properties and is also acidic, which helps remove surface skin.

I have used proactiv before but it did no justice for me. It made me feel like if I were to laugh my skin was cracking and then burning (talk about super sensitive) but since I cannot recall if I was on other medications at the time, I've been thinking about giving it another try. It was yrs ago when I used it. I'm tired of taking oral medications for my skin. I don't know yet but thank you all for posting this, this way if I decide to use it I won't freak out if the bleaching happens to me.

Have you tried Murad? I know a lot of people who proactive didn't work for had better luck with Murad.

Re: Proactiv bleach?? *read*
Half of my shirts are ruined from when I used to use proactiv because I didn't realize what it was that was fading my clothes. A lot of my pillows are quite faded too.

The stuff didn't work for me either. It just irritated my skin and made me break out more. I hateeeee proactiv.

Re: Proactiv bleach?? *read*
haha all of my towels and pillow cases are like that too! It's easy to avoid once you know what it is though so you should be good now! Just use white pillow cases and a white towel (or a crappy one you don't really care about) and you'll be fine!

oh yeah and ProActiv worked wonders for my skin! I've since stopped using it after 2 years of success from the program and my skin is great now! When I start to break out every now and again I use the sulfur mask or just the lotion and it helps clear it right up!
