Why doesn't MAC list ingredients on their website?
Odd, I posted this question earlier and now it's been removed... Are we not supposed to ask why MAC opts not to list it's ingredients on the website? Or is it possible the ingredients ARE available on maccosmetics.com and I just can't find it?

TIA!

I don't see any other posts by you on this subject, or any that have been removed. Don't know what to tell you, but there's no paper trail for another post. Just FYI since you seemed concerned.

Re: Why doesn't MAC list ingredients on their website?
Thanks for the link Frocher, but I'm curious why this information can't be found on MAC's website? I'm admittedly an ingredient junkie and lack of access to ingredient list on the manufacturer's website discourages me from buying.

Re: Why doesn't MAC list ingredients on their website?
Would be best to directly contact MAC with your question. I don't think anyone here is capable of answering or providing illumination on that Q for you. Seems like someone in the corporate ladder would be able to assist with shedding light on their practices for you though. JMO

i think it is because mac has sooooo many products, that it would take up too much space on the site to list ingredients. take shadows for example. each finish (lustre, matte, matte2, satin, veluxe, veluxe pearl, frost, velvet) has their own ingredients. some may be similar, but then you have the ones that make each finish different, and on top of that the ingredients used to make each color.

with:
8 different shadow finishes
5 different blush finishes (plus 2 blushecreme finishes)
9 different foundations
7 different mascaras
6 different lipstick finishes
and concealers, and different lipglosses, and eye liners, etc., plus LE products, there would be so much space dedicated to ingredients that the products would get lost among them.

besides, all the ingredients are listed on the box of the product. and if you need to know an ingredient before you buy, pop into a store or counter and read the boxes, or call and ask an MA if a certain ingredient is in something.

just my thought on why its not listed.

Re: Why doesn't MAC list ingredients on their website?
I asked an MA in Live Chat about this and was directed to send an email to the Global Consumer Communications Department at ConsumerCommunications-MAC@maccosmetics.com. They haven't yet responded to my email. Unfortunately, MAC is not the only company that doesn't make ingredients available online; I tend not to buy from those companies and direct my business to those who believe in full disclosure.

Re: Why doesn't MAC list ingredients on their website?
I asked a friend of mine that is an Editor at a fashion magazine about that a couple of months ago because I have a client that is allergic to a bunch of things and she likes to use vegan friendly products. She said that alot of cosmetics company do not list all or any of the ingredients used in the products because it is considered "trade secret" what they put in their cosmetics and are not required by the FDA to list it. The FDA is very lax on what cosmetics companies do, they basically expect for them to police themselves. I called MAC and the costumer rep was not very helpful on telling me the ingredients but they did send me a list of their "vegan safe" products.

Re: Why doesn't MAC list ingredients on their website?
But MAC lists it's ingredients on the packaging, so they're hardly giving away any trade secrets. Lack of ingredients on their website discourages me from buying online, forcing me to go into a store, track down a busy employee so I can look at the box to review the ingredients. I'm MUCH more likely to buy from companies who make it easy for me to conduct my own research online prior to purchase.

That being said, lack of ingredients hasn't stopped me from buying MAC eyeshadows, but I'll never buy their foundations of skincare products.

BTW, over a week now and still no response from ConsumerCommunications-MAC@maccosmetics.com. Very poor CS.

Eh , I don't use them anyways , I got scolded by both my Dermatologist and My esthetician , for using M.A.C foundations.

My derm. scolded me without hardly even talking to me on the first visit! He read my question sheet I filled out in the office before the appointment and said "MAC huh? yeah thats awful"

Check out the way it's done on Laura Mercier's site...very unobtrusive with pop-ups

If you live 1.5 hours from a store or counter like me it's a pain. I have called but have gotten less than reliable results and put-out attitudes, unfortunately. Also, there is not just 1 ingredient I'm looking to avoid. I have rosacea and there are many things I can't tolerate. For someone with super-sensitive skin like me it's just not practical to buy face products without knowing ingredients, so it's a matter of e-mailing Global Consumer Communications and waiting days or sometimes longer for an answer, buying blindly and possibly ending up returning, or just moving on to another brand that makes it easier (like LM), unfortunately!
