Going to a ball!
Hello all! I'm going to a ball wearing this dress that Sandra Oh wore at the 2007 Oscars! OSCAR.com - 80th Annual Academy Awards - Red Carpet: The Past 5 Years

I'll be wearing dangly gold earrings and bracelents and my purse and shoes are yet to be found.

What would you recommend I do with my hair? (Mine is a few inches past my shoulders. I liked Lindsay Lohan's hair in last month's Bazaar although my hair isn't as long Lindsay Lohan - Cover Story - Bazaar.com but then someone posted in another thread about how this half up, half down look is done too much!)

As for makeup, I'm not sure what to do either. I live in Toronto and would love a great makeover from MAC, but I'm worried about snobby makeup artists (I feel so intimidated going in there) or having it turn out badly. Any makeup suggestions? Any favourite MAC store/counter with a great artist you'd recommend?

Re: Going to a ball!
i'm not in canada but alot of people think we're snobs, when really most of us aren't.

here's what you do. go to a store/counter and browse around. get a feel for how the artists act/talk/look. then when you find someone you like, set up an appt with them. bring your dress pic and see what they suggest. then, if you like it, buy what they used to replicate the look at home, or have them do it again the night of your ball.

as for your hair, i love LL's hair in that pic. get extensions so that you can do it that way. not super expensive ones, but not shitty cheap ones either. i personally think full updos are overdone, not half 'n halfs. if you don't wanna do extensions, leave your hair all the way down with soft waves.

Re: Going to a ball!
Get some nice false lashes (natural looking ones) and practice. They can be life changing and are a glamorous finishing touch.

Thanks! I'm hoping to do this whether my makeup is done professionally or by myself. I've started to practice and getting marginally better!

I will definitely take your advice. I'll go tomorrow.

All recommendations still welcome though!
