Would you buy this product again? Yes, and do you know, I might even run out of it in a year or so, I'm so hooked on the stuff....
I'm frankly astonished that no-one's written a review of this before me, because at the moment it's my no. 1 favourite MAC product, and definitely my favourite pigment. I would strongly recommend this pigment to anyone with colouring NW20 or paler, it's very versatile, and I think it does absolutely delightful things for anyone with pale skin.
So, what makes Pink Opal pigment - so boring looking in the jar, white with pale pink sheen, nothing too exciting - so special, you say? Well - in a word - Pink Opal's all about the *shimmer*. That's what this pigment does : provides sheer, delicate, face-warming shimmer in abundance, however you use it - and the bright pinky sheen is indeed very reminiscent of the shimmer of an opal.... worn as an eyeshadow this pigment's pretty enough (like a paler, slightly pinker, more shimmery version of Seedy Pearl, which it works well alongside) but is possibly too pale to be used as anything but a highlight colour for most skintones and eye makeup style.
Worn on lips, Pink Opal's also a surprisingly cute little number. I wasn't initially too convinced about the idea of pigments on lips, thinking they would be weird and chalky, but actually they work fine (at least this and Violet do, I suppose they are two of the finer milled pigs so it may not be the case for pigments "across the board"....). I have fairly highly pigmented, rosy lips, and Pink Opal pig with just a hint of gloss over is what I sometimes use with a smoky eye if I want to dull them down and do a "mod" lip thing, it works well but is also nice 'n soft and shimmery..... the other way I've used pink Opal is on top of bright red lipstick, it creates a cheerful bright rose duochrome as the pink pigment mutes and pearlises the red underneath - very pretty indeed....
But where Pink Opal really, absolutely comes into its own is worn as a face product: here it's simply divine - dusted on cheeks as a highlighter it imparts a beautiful ethereal peachy-pearl sheen which is reminiscent of Lightscapade MSF (and if you didn't manage to get your hands on Lightscapade and are NW20 or below, I sincerely suggest you give Pink Opal a try, it's a helluva lot cheaper than buying one of these MSFs on eBay these days) - I take a little pot of this into work every day as my magic "complexion perker-up-er" when I'm feeling tired and use it as required - and I've also tried it mixed into foundation on SERIOUSLY "in need of perk-me-up" days (hangovers etc) - it seems to work really well in giving a dewy glow without being really obvious.
Pink Opal is love and it's one of those makeup items, now I've got it, I find it hard to imagine however I managed without its pretty, subtle, almost fairy-princess like irridescence.
