Vanity question/advice ~ I need a glamour staion!!
I currently store all my makeup and brushes in the bathroom cabinet, and I am looking into get a vanity (with mirror, perferably a light up mirror almost like a studio/salon setting) so I can get my makeup out of the humid bathroom enviroment, and have a dedicated place for makeup storage and application. And besides I want a pretty place in my bedroom for my girly stuff!
Where could I get one? Does anyone have a good source? Care to post a pic of yours? Remember a site you saw a cool one on the net somewhere?
I have been looking all over (mostly on the internet), and all the ones I have found are really expensive (over a grand), are really ugly, or they have no drawers. I need drawers for my stuff! I have modern tastes, and perfer sleek design, or organic looking stuff, like funky wood tones.
My husband has offered to make me one, but I know it is not high on his to do list, so if I can find one for a reasonable price, I'm sure I could buy it with no problems... I wish I could find one that met all my needs.
Help!

If all else fails you could combine a smallish cute desk and mount a mirror over top of it?

Belongs to MUA member openscrt and I know she got it at The Container Store. ( www.thecontainerstore.com) The pieces are still some what expensive but your total cost would be in the $100's not the $1000. It is the elfa system. I contacted her to find out the exact pieces she has but she recently moved and has been really busy. I did some research and I can tell these are the pieces she has but I don't know the drawer depth etc:

Also, the now have mesh drawers:

I have to go now but check out the site to find the desk top! LOL.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Ikea may have a desk you could convert. I'd check any used furniture stores in your area; some of them have real finds.

what great ideas! I had been thinking Ikea as well! I have one right down the street and I stop (and shop) in quite frequently. (More the half of my house furnitire is from Ikea) All my makeup is in an Ikea storage system in the bathroom!
I also have a Container Store right by me as well. I may be going out this weekend to do some browsing! I like what the MUA member did. I will have to look into it.
We have a lot of antique stores in Philly but all the quality furniture is usually pricy, and all the hipsters snach up all the good thrift finds!
Thanks for all your input! I will keep you posted!

Mine is from Target, It is very girly and I LOVE it It's a distressed white shabby chic style with the glass balls for knobs. Very Very cute & under $200.
This isn't the one I have but it is cheap And, it could work with a few cool accessories, The wicker bin's are so great, they hold so much and keep it all easy to get to but out of sight. Just a thought...

I did this at our cottage, worked great and was very inexpensive. I bought an inexpensive desk that was fairly narrow but long and had an octagon mirror I hung above it, Used the tall sterilite drawer's to keep my "Stuff" I still used my makeup mirror most of the time. It did the trick of keeping my things together and a place for me to do my work

Re: Vanity question/advice ~ I need a glamour staion!!
I too looked for a vanity EVERYWHERE but the one's I liked were $900+ so what I did instead was used two of those Sterlite (sp?) tall 5 drawer things on wheels and got a piece of MDF board cut to size (20" x40") at home depot-painted it and placed it on top of the sterlites, w/ a space in the middle for a stool/my legs. I then velcro'd fabric around the board to match my bedroom. I was lucky to find a beautiful tri-fold mirror @ Biglots (though I still use a light up mirror to put on makeup). Sorry I don't know how to work a dig camera..but I think it came out pretty & you can change the fabric as you like.

Re: Vanity question/advice ~ I need a glamour staion!!
Here's my own glamour station. I use mostly BE now and stash them in the drawers so I can see all the colors. I got this vanity custom made but I'm sure you can find one just like it in antique/thrift stores. (I copied this from an ebay antique.) Good luck in your hunt.

BTW, I love how this works for me. I'm sitting down, everything's at my fingertips, I have lighting, and a power outlet for my hair dryer and light.
Here are photos of my BE stash in each of the drawers, just so you can see how they work.

Some nice options here...

I particularly like the ones with a whole column of drawers. Just one across the center would not be enough!
