I have thin, sparse brows also...when I over-butcher mine, I use a brow pencil that is the right shade, but to make it look more natural, I use a brow brush to blend the pencil in, so it's more even and smooth instead of looking like a drawn on line...sometimes I'll use wet eyeshadow instead

I've got naturally sparse and shapeless brows as you can see, so I have to be very careful I don't over-tweeze. I like to draw the shape in pencil first so I can see exactly what to tweeze and what not to.
My daily brow routine involves drawing the shape with a MAC brow pencil (these really last all day), then softening it with a brush. I check for stray hairs that need tweezing (my hairs grows too fast, sneaky things). Then I finish it off with Smashbox brow tech wax to keep them in place.
One of the most common brow mistakes is the "sperm brow" where the brow is tweezed too much and doesn't taper properly towards the arch.
It inpsired me to make this diagram...

WOW.
I have naturally sparse brows too. Your after pics look fab and very natural that you couldn't tell how sparse they are naturally.
When you use the pencil do you use quick flicking motion to try and draw in stray hairs?
Sorry for the questions but I am inspired by your post

Thanks! Yea, that is what I do.. I draw with the pencil like I'm drawing in individual hairs - of course they don't actually look like hairs because the pencil isn't that skinny, but I just find it helps to draw it that way. Using a brush afterwards to blend it in is important to keep it natural looking (which is why some people just use a brush & powder and no pencil at all.. but I think the waxiness of the pencil makes it longer lasting)

If you're allergic to waxing (like i am...), i'd totally recommend getting your eyebrows threaded. It's quick, pretty painless, and a few dollars cheaper. And i feel there's more precision with threading vs waxing.
Also, after getting waxed, you're left with that gross, sticky feeling - NOT with threading
Normally, I lightly shade in my brows with black tied just to give it a nicer shape. I thought it would be too dark for eye brows, but it really isn't that bad.

Threading
I love to get them threaded, this lasts longer than waxing in my opinion!

I am a recovering eyebrow butcher...
I have a habit of overplucking, but last year a friend of a friend asked for some pictures of eyebrows for her beauty coursework and I offered mine up as a bad set.... her tutor said he'd never seen anything so bad!
I was shamed, but they are now lovely looking! I have a slight arch and they aren't perfectly symmetrical, but I try and keep them following the shape of my brow bone.
I use MAC eyebrow pencil in Stud, as although I have naturally dark blonde hair, I have dark eyebrows and I dye my hair black anyway!

Mine are sparse and have very little arch - they almost go completely straight across. (pic here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...creenshot8.jpg )
Lately I've been plucking them trying to create something like an arch and ended up making them waaaay to thin around the ends, because they're sparse anyway. I fill them in with BeneFit's browzings in dark (I need to check out some of MAC's new brow stuff since this is a little light) and set with She Laq so that the powder doesn't rub off and show spots.

Re: All about Eyebrows =)
My brows used to be fairly thick but the hairs were usually tame. Once I started working on them I found the length of the hairs to be really annoying, but just trimming them once in a while is enough for me, they usually look the same. I use fluidline to fill them in around the ends. I got my brows waxed once but they ended up a little uneven and I knew what shape I wanted better than the girl who did them. Anyway, this might sound strange, but I found that brushing vaseline on a clean mascara wand into my brows and leaving it overnight helped them immensely - they never look out of place and a lot more polished. They dont look greasy in the morning, the hairs just stay in place better.

Wow. That's something I've never heard. Waxing and threading removes hairs the same way, from the root.

Re: All about Eyebrows =)
i think my brows right now are the best they've ever been (which is really sad... ) my natural hair colour is strawberry blonde and my brows are pretty much invisible because i have olive skin and when i get sun, my skin ends up being darker than my almost platinum blonde brows...so i dye them black. they don't hold dye very well at all, so the black usually ends up a medium brown colour and only lasts about a month at best. i tweeze, but i really need to wax them to get rid of all those blonde hairs that linger. most of the time when i fill them in, i use a light brown covergirl pencil...sometimes i use nyc browsers in brunette if i want to be really dramatic with them.

sometimes i wish i had a more awesome arch...

Re: All about Eyebrows =)
For anyone who is looking for a black alternative for filling in brows, try concrete eyeshadow.
I am extremely fair with near black hair on my brows. However, as I've gotten older, they're not as full anymore, so filling them with black makes them just too shocking. All the darkest browns I tried up to that point would look fine in some light and too orangey based in other lights.
I spoke with a wonderful mac MA at my local store and asked her if I should try charcoal grey. She said no, try a dark brown with less red undertones. She walked over to the shadows and whipped out concrete. We did not test it on me, I just bought it at her suggestion and it is positively perfect.

Re: All about Eyebrows =)
Mine are so unruly, (they have no natural shape).
I use a turquoise eyeliner (WetnWild) to outline them and thread outside the outline every 1-2 weeks. I then use Rimmel brow pencil in black to shape them a bit and MAC Brow Shader in Soft Maple/Charcoal to fill them in.
