What exactly are undertons?
I've read in mags and stuff that says to buy stuff with like undertones etc and I have no clue what that is?

Its the second color that you see when looking.
Its like your skin for example.. lets say your white...well usually you're not just white white..you will have peach, pink or red undertones.
Hopes it makes sense!

Thanks aziajs, for helping out there. I hope that it explains things, xwithoutux? Feel free to ask more questions if still having a bit of trouble understanding.

This is a great site for undertones and help picking out foundation.
http://www.beauty-and-nutrition.com/...oundation.html

WARM: Yellow & Orange Skin Undertones
Eye Color: Brown, Green Hazel
Hair Color: Brunette, Red, Blonde
Warm hair colours are: black, brown, red, auburn, blonde, honey blonde
Warm skin undertones are: yellow, orange, olive (veins on your wrist look greenish)
Warm eyes are (normally): brown, green, hazel
Warm clothes: don't wear white, wear cream. You would look great in earth tone

NEUTRAL: Fair/light pink, olive, yellow undertones
Eye Color: All colors
Hair Color: All colors
Neutral hair colours are: can be any colour
Neutral skin undertones are: unspecifiable, pink, olive, yellow
Neutral eyes are: can be any colour
Neutral clothes: you can wear any color clothing

COOL: Blue & pink skin undertones
Eye Color: Blue, Violet, Grey
Hair Color: Blonde, Brunette
Cool hair colours are: blonde, natural brown, black
Cool skin undertones are: blue, pink (veins on your wrist look bluish)
Cool eyes are (normally): blue, grey
Cool clothes: a white trouser suit looks wonderful on you

Some people have a combo of skin undertones. A simple test is to determine your skin tone: Hold a swatch of silver material and a swatch of gold material near your face. If the silver is more flattering, your dominant undertones are cool, or more red-based. If the gold is more flattering, you probably have more yellow in your skin and therefore have mostly warm undertones. If both flatter you, your neutral.

Here's a site that has 2 fun test once you figure out your undertone.

How do you determine skin undertone?
I am trying to figure out if I am warm or cool toned and if I have pink or yellow undertones. I have never been matched to MAC foundations so I have no idea. The last time I had a makeover (not MAC), the MA sold me a green corrector moisterizer for my face. That means I have pink undertones and am cool right? Or do I have this all wrong?

For MAC, if you have yellow/orange undertones, you're NC (C if you have yellow/olive), and NW if you are more pink. (So NC equals golden equals cool, and NW equals pink equals warm, which seems like the opposite of how most people would categorize it. If it makes more sense, think of it as not-cool and not-warm.)

They say to look at your veins - if they tend to show up more blue, then you are NW, if they look greenish, then NC. Doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot.

I tend to try looking at different white fabrics next to my skin - pure white looks best? NW. Creamy, yellowed white? NC.

AudreyNicole if you scroll above there is tons of help

Of course if you need more help just ask
It's not always that easy to determine. IMO it's the one the hardest things to the hang of when it comes to makeup.

It is interesting how different companies categorize undertones because on the Philosophy website (thank god they got proper colours for the supernatural foundation) I match a Warm 1 in supernatural foundation but I'm as cool as they come Brown hair, blue eyes, and pink undertones = cool. Yet with MAC I'm considered warm and now Philosophy has me as warm. How weird.
