Are there any animal derived ingredients in Mac products? Particularly the lip ones?

If you are near a freestanding store you can ask them. I had the same concern a while ago and they looked up ingredients in a book for me. But, I had to ask about specific products. I remember there being sheep bones in one of the skincare products- maybe a whitening one.

You also may be able to ask online about a specific product. I emailed MAC about animal derived ingredients and the person said I needed to ask about a particular product.

As far as I know not many, if any, lip products have animal products in them. The only thing that comes to mind is carmine and that's from a bug (it's used very often). Here's more info on that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmine The only other product is beeswax.

In regard to animals though, you'd have to check the labels. As FemmeNoir says, it's usually in more cleaning products than in the makeup itself. More chance of getting an animal product in something more liquid then dry. In all the make-up I own though, the only animal products I have contain beeswax and carmine. So, you should be safe. But when in doubt, ask.

Funny you bring this up. I was just bitching about it when I got my new ingredient appendix. I had forgotten about carmine - which is an age old way of producing beautiful red dyes - but it's made through crushing up beetles this website: http://webexhibits.org/pigments/indi...y/carmine.html explains it.
pseudopterogoria elisabethae is a coral (an animal for those who don't know) and they use that as a skin conditioner and Acetyl glucosamine aka a crab's carapace/exoskeleton as a skin conditioning agent in the "lightful" moisturizers.

It's also worth pointing out that lanolin, beeswax, milk protein and whey protein are products of living animals which can be harvested without harming the animals just as hair can be harvested to make brushes.

Does anyone know what this is - "7-Dehydrocholesterol" (its in the Pro-Preferred White Intensified & Strobe Cream)???

I'm disappointed about this and the Carmine (for some reason I had it in my head they didn't use Carmine...)

I'm not vegetarian but i am Muslim which means any animal product i use has to be halal, it's hard to do this though so i generally don't want to be putting lip stuff on which has animal ingredients especially in Ramadhan.

Which incidentally we have just found out starts tonight! Ramadhan Mubarak!

It is a provitamin present in the skin of humans as well as the milk of mammals that becomes vitamin D3 when exposed to ultraviolet light. It can be extracted from wool as well as animal skin.
