Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
Filament, you might aswell just throw chunky glitter at your eyelid because theres no colour payoff and more of it ends up on your cheeks, plus it messes up my palette when I use it, get little flakes of it in all my other shadows

I thought this too, but then I just applied it with my finger pressing against my lid and it showed up just fiiiiiiine. It kinda looks like a paler Amber Lights.

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
The ONLY color I never use on clients is Honey Lust. It never applies evenly. Ever. Every other color MAC makes I've probably used a million times. Honey Lust, over and over again, I don't like. Have friends that adore it. Not my cup of tea.

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
Idol Eyes always comes out clumpy on me, even with a paintpot or UDPP base. other than that, i love them all

But there's usually a way to make anything work -- chalky ones, streaky ones, etc. A different base, brush, or technique often helps a lot.
At first I found it hard to make Honey Lust show up but since then Ive been trying to use a colored base first (maybe a gold shadow pencil) and then apply the Honey Lust over it . I guess it all depends on the look you're trying to achieve but I know I loved it when I tried it...trial and error I guess...

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
I can't get Honey Lust or Gleam to work on me
I have no color pay off with those and I always end up with glitter on top of my cheeks.

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
for me, personally...
i struggled in the beginning with many MAC shadows.
i felt that they didn't go on vibrant enough, and when i applied
some of the colors...they would fall all underneath whoever's eyes
i was working on (i'm a makeup artist)...
and then the other makeup i had already done would get ruined.
although i SWEAR by MAC products...
(i have a pro-card and use it much too frequently!)
i absolutely HATE their eyeshadow primers.
i feel like they crease, just like most of MAC's creame-based products. (i.e...shadesticks and paints.)
the trick to getting rid of that "chalky" or "messy"
eyeshadow-look is to use an amazing primer.
the only one that i use on any of my clients is
Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion.
IT IS AMAZING.
it amplifies any of the shadow's pigmentations, makes it
SUPER easy to blend, keeps pigments from falling all over the face,
and keeps your shadow on for HOURS.
i love this product so much!
it retails for $16.00...and can be found at either ULTA or Sephora.
i know at both stores right now there is a pretty cool special going
on that you can get the E.S.P.P. and an Urban Decay eyeshadow
palette with 10 shadows for $39.00.

for real...go buy this product NOW.
it really made me learn to love all the shadows
so much more. haha.

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
thanks eric...i went and bought UDPP today. i'm pretty new to makeup and not sure i understand what people mean when they say their e/s "creases."

I always use mac paint pot from lid to brow and i do notice, particularly under the brow, by the end of the night, it isn't smooth looking-kinda like cracking lines....is that what people mean when they say their e/s "creases?"

udpp-i've tried it once before from a sample, but it didn't seem special at the time. but i'm def. willing to work with it some more. one question: what if you want to use a colored base under your shadow? is UDPP just as effective when you use it first, then a mac paint pot, then a shadow? or does using the mac bases just mess everything up, in your opinion?

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
I've never used a Paint Pot but I use paints, and I have no creasing problems and I can go swimming and as long as I don't rub my eyes the shadow will stay on. UDPP is amazing as well. I use it when I do glitter things on my eyes, and it really helps it stay up with little fallout.

Re: Which Mac shadows should be avoided?
Unfortunately, I could not get Idol Eyes to show up well on me. It just did not work for me in color, texture, anything! I know this one is probably pretty popular but for me it was a . I am an NC-35 with combination skin for reference.
