Using The Color Wheel to choose complementary shades
I always have the most horrible time choosing lipsticks because I never know what should go with what.

So I'm asking all you mac heads - What colors compliment eachother, eyeshadow, lipstick and blush wise?

Hi!

I cant help you with the blush lipstick question but I cant give you the color circle! This helps you by choosing any complementary colors, just take the color on the opposite site of your "starting" color:

just look up "color wheel" on Google and you'll find any number of them.

you can also buy inexpensive ones at art supply stores.

Color Wheel
Does anyone use th color wheel to come up with color matches/combinations?

This is a basic color wheel:

This is a really cool combination finder!!

Yeah, I use it, though I don't have to look at the wheel anymore. I take it into consideration every time i choose a color, what the look will be etc..

How would this work? Would you put opposites together like red and green?

Well, basically when you put colors opposite on the color wheel it makes them brighter and more vivid side by side. When layered they neutralize each other. Picking a color combination of 3 or 4 that lie side by side on the wheel makes a lovely eye shadow combination. or you could make a rainbow eye and know where to place the colors for a perfect rainbow.

i learned about the color wheel in past art classes, I even took an entire class that was devoted only to color. i definately use it, not necessarily whipping it out by my makeup mirror- but the concept of complementary colors etc.

Try this. It's a combination finder. You can press the SPIN button to find a color you like and once you do you can check the HOLD box next to it and to keep the color and when you press spin again you will be shown colors that compliment it. I would then use those colors either side by side on my lid or as colors for my cheeks, eyes, and lips. For example I just tried it and I got Peach, Periwinkle, and Midnight Blue. I would maybe put peach on my lid, periwinkle in the crease and line with midnight blue. Or if you spun and got fuschia, lilac and peach you could put a fuschia gloss on your lips, lilac shadow on your eyes and peach shimmer on your cheeks. That's just an example. Let me know what you think.

This is a really cool combination finder!!

I think this is a really great thread.

I love the wheel that Linda posted.

Sometimes I like the contrast in colors but when I do complimenting ones I guess I just look at them almost like I would my clothes....Does this match?
Silly I know but it's how I do it.

yes that is what she meant by colorwheel, you can get a good one at an art supply or craft store.
