6 month old baby

I have a 6 month old baby girl, Isabella, and she has already gotten her two bottom teeth! My doctor told me that I should stop nursing her at night when she wakes up (due to tooth decay), and I have, but I was wondering if it was okay if I continue to nurse her to sleep (the last feeding).

Some books mention not to nurse her to sleep when she's out for the rest of the night until the morning, but she doesn't seem to want to retire for the rest of the night unless I nurse her to sleep.

Also, is it okay to use a pacifier to soothe her to sleep instead of nursing?

I just love being a mother - nothing is comparable.

that's strange your doctor told you that. I would get a second opinion. Mine had teeth young and i nursed them past the 6 month stage and no tooth decay!

yeah she told me to cut out all night time feedings because it can possibly lead to tooth decay! thanks pumpkin...maybe i'll call the nurse's line to see what they have to say.

Cute!

When a baby nurses, your nipple is all the way in the back of their mouth. Therefore, the milk doesn't really touch the teeth. Her ped is probably used to seeing babies that are bottlefed and given a bottle in their crib. That is the way milk can harm their teeth because with bottles, the milk pools in their mouth and continues to come out of the nipple. But with breastfeeding, when the baby stops, the flow usually stops.

I'd continue nursing your baby to sleep and just wipe out her mouth with a warm, wet, soft washcloth.

my daughter is 1 year old, and i still nurse her to sleep when she's in the mood. all 6 of her teeth are fine.

your doctor is definitely wack. a lot of people think it's ideal to breastfeed babies 'til they are a full year old, and most babies have teeth by then.

listen, if you're only breastfeeding at this time of day (night), i'm sure you're not corroding the poor kids teeth.

Just don't give her any lollipops.

yeah a lot of ppl are telling me that they still nursed their babies in the middle of the night when they awoke and their teeth are fine!

we have actually been able to get her to fall asleep for the night walking her around instead of nursing her to sleep because her last feed is now cereal! (she LOVES the cereal/breastmilk feedings)

she has also cut her top tooth already and although she wakes up a bit cranky some times during the night, a soother puts her back to sleep within a few minutes. she actually sometimes falls back asleep when I put my face right up to her and she holds my cheek with one hand awwwwwwww...(we co-sleep).

We co-slept, too. Ara used to fall asleep cupping my face, too. So sweet.

belldandy, dont worry about the teeth, they will certainly not be damaged by the nursing. enjoy the happy time with you baby, it will stop so soon...
