Help Me Choose a Name for my Baby Boy!!
OK, so this is our 4th baby - and he will be our 3rd son For as long as I can remember we have never had a baby born without already having a name chosen long before due dates, but this is a little touch and go with family - our first son Callum died from infantile Krabbes disease - a leukodystrophy - when he was a baby. Now I want to choose a name, but one sort of sounds like "Callum" and I have gotten flack from the family, but its the one I had my heart set on. I didnt choose it because of Callum and it has a totally different meaning, so guys what do you think? These are the names I like - (in order of preference)
1- Cailan - (pron Kay-lan) means victorious
2- Cullen - (pron Cull-en) meaning from Scotland - my hubby is all Scot in ancestry!
3- Cian - (pron Kye-ann) meaning ancient

I say Cailan, also. And I know this is gonna sound like weird BS, but when I saw the topic, for some reason I thought, "Kalen" but thought that spelling was too girly. I damn near choked when I saw "Cailan".

Oooh - must be an omen!! Thats the name I want and I know hubby wont object, its the extended family that gets to me. They just keep saying that its too similar and that this baby will grow up in the shadow of his brother. Perhaps in their minds maybe, but I dont feel he will - he will be his own person, but I worry that they might treat him differently because of it.....

Your son will always have to spell his name for people, just keep that in mind.

I like Cullen. Cailen is a wonderful name, but spelling it and getting people to pronounce it correctly might dog him his whole life.

Re: Help Me Choose a Name for my Baby Boy!!
My son's middle name will be "Seamus". My grandfather was Scottish and I wanted to name him "Hamish" (Scot for James), but my husband vetoed it...said he'd get teased too much. I went with the Irish version, and I already have people pronouncing it "Sea-mus" instead of "Shay-mus"...oh well!
At any rate, I picked Cailen. It's a beautiful name. :-)
