So my demo is today. I am so nervous. I mean my stomach is in knots. This is my profession so why am I feeling like this?? Well I know why..its because I'm so new to MAC. I've been reading and I've retained some info, but its soooo much info to learn in so little of time. I already know how to use brushes and I've come accustom to using certain brushes a certain way. I'm just hoping that if I don't use the typical blending brush to blend my shadows it won't be held against me....but then again I'm there to sell brushes so I guess I would need to use the appropriate brush. BLAH!! I can do it...but I would like to save the few seconds of looking and reaching for that particular brush..to just blending with the one I have...if its the correct size. 30 mins to do a face is pretty quick. I have to come out of photoshoot mode where I would actually contour a face...using multiple foundations & powders to just maybe one foundation and one powder. Yeah I know I'm over thinking this, but my mind is just racing.

Any last pointers for a new MAC chic? Please any advice is good advice.

Don't wear heels too high lol. I was at my demo and I wore the worst shoes. I almost couldnt finish cause I was hunched over. Its like the worst thing ever.

But other than that, get a game plan before you go in. Most likly you will be doing a day face or wedding face that you need to turn into a night look. My suggestion would be to pre plan what colors look good for day, what you would use, which foundation with which powder (like natural msf for light cov with cover stick for redness and pimples) depending on your model. Then, think about your night color, any 1 to 2 dark colors on the outside of the eye brought over to the crease turns the day look to night.

Remember they will most likely give you 10 min to walk through a packed store to pick out what you will need. That is why I say make a game plan so you wont find yourself missing something and having to search and match colors.

Oh and they love when you use a ton of product because they cust has to buy more, like you shouldnt sell less than 3 items per transaction. So instead of just applying lipglass on your model, put lip erase/or lip primer, then pencil, lipstick and gloss.

Also while doing everything explain to your model what your putting on her, where it goes, with what brush and why.

First of all just remember it may be a scary demo, but they are human. I like to listen to some music to take my mind of the nerves. I also did a lot of moving about until I went into do it. You need to calm yourself down enough to focus on the demo. They will be looking at how you interact with the customer and what you say and show. Be open. Friendly. As you would, be yourself, but professional.

To calm your nerves take a lot of deep breaths. I brought a friend along for moral support to talk to before and after the demo. I like to listen to music when I get nervous before an interview. I put on something I would when I'm about to go on a night out as it puts me in a good mood and somehow relaxes me! Good luck! Don't worry too much. It will only last under half an hour and before you know it, it will be over. Don't get hung up on technacalities. Make sure you sanatize lip and eye pencils before applying them on the customer, ask beforehand what their sanatizing procedures are! xx

Once you get started you'll be fine! Just remember to talk to your model as if she's a real customer, explain what you are doing - not only in your application but the brushes you are using and why - sanitize, and make her look fabulous!

P.S. I had 15 minutes for my demo. All scenarios are different, but no matter what yours is I'm sure you'll ace it

I'm a Mac Freelancer.


I had to do a day look....turn it into a night look. I used alot of product...primers, moisturizer, etc. My nerves still had me but I worked through them. It wasn't my best work, but it did what was needed. Plus I had my port.

Suggestions made: I need to practice on natural everyday looks because I'm so use to photoshoots. Also I need to become friends with 224. Yep I ended up blending with my flat eyeshadow brush...OOPS!!

But other than that I got good remarks.

So practice, practice, practice I must do!
