Re: questions about MAC interviews
misssupra gave some great answers. I'm just going to toss my two cent in as well.
1.what should i wear? black top and dickies or what?
Black is a must to be considered at all. You want to show up as if you already belong there. But remember it is still an interview so still business professional. Even though I wear some trendier clothes to work, for my interview I was more business professional. Black shoes ( no colors on the rims/or threading), no faded black clothing, black/silver/or gold jewelry. I know my region does not consider anyone who isn't dressed appropriately.
2.Should i wear fake nails or is that unsanitary or something? my moms a nurse and she can have them for that reason so maybe if i have to touch someones face they wouldnt like that.
Fake Nails are fine. But not necessary. In my region they must be at least manicured at bare minimum. If you have polish make sure to touch it up before leaving. No chips or nail peeking through the polish.
3.if i get hired, will they have a class to teach the "mac way" of doing the makeup? Everyone eventually goes to Basic, however you might end up behind the counter before you get a chance to go there. If this happens, ask your co workers for help with questions and I'd recommend reading through maccosmetics.com about some products. It will be enough to allow you to get started until basic happens. There's no mac way of applying makeup, but you will get extensive information on hygiene and sanitation practices at MAC.
4. how much does the hair matter? i know it should be nice and neat but is it okay to have an edgy look? do they like that?
Edgy can be ok, but don't go too crazy. Your face/makeup should be your standout so they see your skills. If your hair detracts from the makeup that isn't the best.
5. does anyone know the specific things the intervieweers like to see or hear?
The interview is going to have the typical sales/service/work place solving/questions. But you are also being evaluated on your appearance and mannerism. So sit up straight, look clean and polished with beautiful makeup, and smile.
6. are all of the demo interviews group demos?
No. In my area, freelance auditions are all group demos. However, for permanent positions, we all do a demo audition for the regional trainer.
7. what is the average pay of a mac counter artist at a department store?
You can certainly ask this to whoever interview you, but no MAC artist should be giving you figure by policy. That being said, the numbers vary by region and location of the counter, so asking here isn't likely to be accurate regardless.
