In a true gesture of MAC's rule breaking, forward thinking company values the need for a fund was recognized. Thus after unanimous vote from all MAC employees MAC established a fund for AIDS research with donations driven directly through the sale of the signature VIVA GLAM lipsticks. Since 1994 MAC has formulated a unique shade of lipstick for the VIVA GLAM AIDS fund and recruited hot stars from all over the world to be spokespeople for the foundation. At a suggested retail of $14 USD when you purchase a Viva Glam lipstick at your local MAC counter or store you are ensuring that 100% of the proceeds are going directly to your local AIDS organizations.
At it's inception in 1994 RuPaul was named the face of MAC VIVA GLAM thus creating a sensation and ensuring world wide attention to VIVA GLAM. In 1997 VIVA GLAM II was announced and noone else but KD Lang was introduced as the face VIVA GLAM II. 2000 brought VIVA GLAM III with two well known rule breakers Mary J. Blige & Lil' Kim as the faces of the campaign. 2002 rang in with another glamorous shade of VIVA GLAM. One of the faces of the campaign is familiar with Mary J. Blige staying on and joining the new faces of Elton John and Shirley Manson. 2004 continued the positive momentum of VIVA GLAM with a universally flattering neutral pink, for the first time available in both a lipstick and lipglass form, an instant hit at MAC stores. The progressive faces of VIVA GLAM V include Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot, Linda Evangelista, Chloë Sevigny, and Boy George.
MAC's VIVA GLAM campaign has been extremely successful thus far raising $44 MILLION dollars to date.
