MAC - Holiday 2010 A Tartan Tale Discussion

Something is wrong with me. I went to the mall couple days ago with 4 things on my list (Cut a Caper l/s, Glamora Castle, Moonlight Night, and The Family Crest piggies), but I came home with nothing

I don't know why, but i was underwhelmed. Cut a Caper is nice, but nothing special. I have Ever Hip, and while they're not perfect dupes, they're very similar. The single e/s was an easy pass, not unique enough for me.
The pigments... I was very very excited to get these,especially after reading all the raves. I swatched them but wasn't wowed. I'm sure they will be more gorgeous and sparkly used wet, but the only place to use this wet is on the lids for smokey eyes. But I don't do smokey eyes often, and even if I do, I have Black Ore solarbits that is more sparkly and gorgeous.
They're nice pigments, but I just thought that I have similar items that can do the same/better job. Having said that, I still keep reading a lot of raves for them, so I kinda second guessed myself, thinking if i made a mistake not buying them. So i don't know, maybe i'll take a look at them again, we'll see

I felt the same way until I saw the collection in person. The Viva Glam bag is really cute. I also bought brush sets that I usually pass on but the quality is much better this time around.

My favorite items of the collection are:

-Family Crest and ML pigments
-Reelers & Rockers e/s palette ( I am wearing it today)
-Lip bag with Baron's Rose & Moth to Flame ( I LOVE this combo!!)
-Viva Glam bag

The MA didn't add the pearl gliders yet but I will go back for Black Swan.

i tried the ones from this collection and I think they're really nice and soft. I have some from the graphic gardens and thought they were nice but this collection ups them. Of course not as good as the fulll size brushes but still good brushes none the less. I think its worth the money.

What are your thoughts on Twists of Tartan? Are the colours as poorly pigmented as Temptalias review say?

Yes--the pigmentation is really good for these shadows and the green is heavenly

I, unlike most of you it seems am not disappointed by this collection... I love the stuff I got. A lot.

I will say one thing though... TFG is not *quite* as great as I was hoping. It looks really good if I prime my lips with some concealer but if I put it directly on my pigmented lips, it doesn't show very well.

I ended up only getting The Family Crest, what a gorgeous pigment! I cannot wait to do a smokey bronzey purple look with it

I didn't get Black Swan, the glitter in it is great when swatched but will hardly look different from regular black liner when on the eyes.

Yesterday I went to pick up my goodies and the entire collection looks so amazing!!!! I didn't get any of the palettes since I'm unsure if I want to get them this year. I'm so after Vain & Glorious Lip Bag as well as Her Highland Honey blush. What I ended up with:

I'm loving this collection!! I'm thinking about backing up Undercurrent again and Black Swan. Possibly, I might backup The Faerie Glen since it does look so pretty!

I love this collection too! I pretty much got everything you did except TFG and passing fancy. I love the stuff I got.

I went to get myself BL and UC at the local counter plus a CP for someone and 1/4 of the stuff was missing from the displays! There was only one MA and she was working with two other ladies so I had to wait a bit. UC was one of the items not there along with Moonlight pigment which I really wanted to see. I didnt really like any of the e/s palettes but did like the Glamora Castle and Semi Precious e/s. Unfortunately I could only spend on the two PG so those were out. I looked at Highland Honey and it seemed to pale for me. Finally the MA came over and had no idea what the UC was and thought it was a l/s when she went looking for it. When I told her it was an e/l she said "oh those sold out last night. Thats why I didnt know what you were talking about" Uggghh figures!! I asked her to call the MAC store at the mall further away to see if they had the UC and thankfully they did so she had them hold two for me...one was for the CP. When I went to pick them up shortly after that this other lady was in front of me and I think she bought almost every item from the collection!!

Went to the Macy's counter instead of Nordies (where I did my preorder) today. They had everything still. I got Courting Lilac lipstick and then another Gone Romancin' for my blog giveaway. I never thought I'd like a lavendar lip on me, but I really love it!

Do I need Lord it up when I have the Eye Kohl in Teddy? I don't have any Pearlglides yet, I planned to get Petrol Blue. But I'd definitely get more use of Lord it up, because I wear brown e/s almost every day. But since I have Teddy, I wonder how similar they are, or is it a completely different product? I don't want to use it on my waterline. Maybe someone has a comparison swatch? I can't check it out in person and have to order online, any help on this would be great

I b2m'd for Courting Lilac today. I like it alot - it doesn't look overly frosty on me at all as I've read alot on MUA. Haven't really kept up with this thread so I don't know if that's the feeling here too. I think my natural lip color is a bit purple-y to start with so that may be why.

I have a questions for you all. Do any of you use the pearl glides as a base before pigments/shadows? I want to use black swan under moonlight night but I am not sure how to do it. TIA!

Yesterday, I picked up Moonlight Night pigment, The Family Crest pigment, and Undercurrent pearlglide eyeliner at the store. The MA gave me a tartan bag, I mean a clear bag with a tartan ribbon. Did anyone else get this bag?

Salina, I thought about She Who Dares MES when I got the Moonlight Night pigment, too.

Still thinking about The Faerie Glen. Also Vain And Glorious and Viva Glam lip bags have started looking good, but I have to stay strong. I should focus on what I already have. This is not always easy though.

I might go back for more, but I'm not expecting going crazy. I hope.
