Yes Winthrop -- it's called losing money. The mse's don't do too well financially speaking, and companies have been losing money on overstock of these products.... the MSFs however do well and still sell but if you will note there is a tendency to introduce new product technology which doesn't require mineralized elements.....
mineral base products are commodities which are going up in price and will reflect on the products -- and the markets don't support those increases for Mineralized products. In fact, if you will notice there have been price increases almost across the board on most products.. and they will probably continue thru 2011-2012... because of global demand for oil/commodities reflecting on production.

Rayana if you were directing your question at me, I think I have covered the answer.. MSFs / Bronzers still sell well.

Cosmetics is all about money just like any other business.. you cut your losses by getting rid of lines which do not sell well.
a very interesting post - thank you! :)

Well, I prefer mineralize skinfinishes too and hope to find them in next collections! (anyway I don't like the wonder woman ones!)

I'm not a fan of MES either, apart from Style Black and Venomous Villains.

I read something interesting on Twitter just now - Pinkiecharm has tweeted that MAC will be repromoting the Magically Cool Liquid Powders from Villainous Villains in May. Not sure where she got that info, but I hope it's true

Hasn't this been mentioned on this thread at certain point? I'm sure I've heard this somewhere already.

It just dawned on me: would Daisy collection have anything to do with Marc Jacobs, by any chance?
What do you think? It could be another designer collab.

temptalia has it in her list of upcoming collections, but her source is merely 'daria' - no mention of where this info came from. http://www.temptalia.com/your-guide-to-upcoming-mac-cosmetics-collections-2011

I finally opened my Magically Cool Liquid Powder fromm VV. I really like it. It so good going on. My t-zone is really oily so I've only used on my cheeks so far. But I haven't had any break outs yet.

As someone else said it feels so good putting it on you're tempted to add more so you have to be careful because when it dries and you have too much it will look cakey, but you can easily buff that away.

Paparazziboy listed it a couple pages back. I may purchase it now. Couldn't stand Dr Faciliers pic on the lid lol.

I wonder what the 'Big Bounce Shadows' are? Yikes, after the OD on Peacocky, what more could there be?

Actually the first thing I thought of when I read the Daisy thing was Marc Jacobs, but I didn't want to think about it too much and get my hopes up. :p I'll really be in trouble if that's the case!

Now to go back and find the release date on that one. ;)

As a side-note to HerGreyness' comments above, I notice that the MES trios from ITG last summer are still available on the Canadian site. The MSFs sold out while the collection was still in stores. I can't see them making too many more efforts on the MES front, because there just always seem to be leftovers.
Hi ladies! Haven't been online much the past week. 'Got an afternoon to chill out now, at least.

I will have to say the MES trios from In the Groove were really excellent and a cut above MES that have come before - many colors had a really lovely reflective quality while still staying rather matte. That comes from the natural ingredients first, along with the manufacturing process.

I think the big problem is most women are really resistant towards sheer colors, even when they are formulated to be successfully buildable, like that last batch of MES. To make a formula that goes in the opposite direction, where the color goes on strong and then can be blended out to a sheer level, like the MegaMetals, seems like the compromise between what the designers and MUAs want going forward and what the average consumer's expectations are about opacity. Personally, I'd rather build sheer layers than blend and blend down (that's my fine art background talking), but I know this is against the grain. I know there's a big difference between pigmentation and opacity, but that distinction gets pretty easily lost out in the real world.

In any case we have MegaMetals and upcoming cream shadows now, which will satisfy people's opacity expectations, and I'm sure that the actual ingredients are cheaper than the Mineralize minerals, even if the manufacturing process is more costly (which I bet is the case with the fine milling on the MegaMetals). The glittery MES are probably cheaper to make than the In the Groove style ones too, and everyone loves them for the holidays, so barring the demands of fashion, they'll keep coming around. The main thing is the tech is marching forward at a breakneck speed, and it's geared towards making products that are more versatile, with better staying power, so even if old favorites pass away (*cough* tendertones *cough*), there's always something better right around the corner - and you won't run the risk of looking stuck in a makeup rut!

P.S, Hi HerGreyness! I hope you had much glamorous lounging in the surf with glamorous makeup and hot pink resort wear.

thank you liba.. but I was in the vecinity of Tuscany or thereabouts... so no surf to speak of.. until next week when I willl wear my hot pink pants with gusto.

As refers the mes/min issues.... the cost of basic materials is making costs soar, while the costs of production are also soaring due to global commodities demands... and so it goes. That ultimately we will have mu which can convert from wet to dry, from translucent to opaque, and from one colour to another in a short application, is a given... it just depends on when exactly these will come to market but the technology and the r&d is already ready and waiting.

I am working on mid year 2012 products right now and I can tell you that the Peacocky formula (which is more expensive at first sight, but actually cheaper for production) will pale in comparison. Same goes for lip products -- so don't anyone despair, full flocky lips are just within our collective reach !

that in essence is what I love about this industry C -- the reinvention, the limitless possibilites and the overwhelming pleasure one gets from something soooo little !!

one of the reasons why I work at what I do with such joy

Cheers to Italian R&D (I'm assuming this was a work trip now reading back on your posts). When I was doing the knitwear it was a thrill to go to the European yarn expos and check out all the outrageous Italian fiber tech. I'm not sure how those crazy Italianos manage to support their business model in this day and age, but thankfully they can't help themselves when it comes to maintaining their high standards of innovation. I guess it comes naturally when your founding fathers suckled from the teats of a wild she-wolf

.

So far, nothing beats that mineral formula from ITG and the FF blushes for being matte plus having that illuminated-from-within quality. Maybe with a name like Big Bounce, those new shadows will be in that vein. If not, I'm sure it's in the works - there's a lab full of white-coated wolf people on it somewhere mixing up vials of binders and talc.

I hope you have a little hot pink bathing beauty costume along with those pants!

HAHAHA - I'll never forget being astounded at how every city just shuts down on Sunday afternoon so that the locals can dress up and parade themselves around the piazza like a pack of lions.

L.A. is a fun city, but damn it's drab as a spinster's boudoir compared to any village, town or city in Italy.

I can't imagine Marc Jacobs straying from NARS any time soon. I remember Francois Nars himself did makeup for a few of his collections. I really think Daisy will have the cream shadow quad and probably a little bit of a '70s-psychedelic-bohemian theme.

Looking forward to updates:)
