MAC X Beth Ditto Discussion

If a lipstick is too bright, a brown liner will help tone it down. Liners like Stripdown, Have to Have It (LE but still available on the website), Spice, Hover, and Cork are great options depending on your skin tone.
I love stripdown to tone down bright colored lipsticks. I'm not to happy about spice because it turns things more red/pink on me.
My fav brown liner when it comes to beige nude lips is Hodgepodge but they stopped selling that so do u think Cork will make a good replacement????

Yep. I cracked up when I saw him do that!!!
That is exactly what I did with mine from last year. Thank goodness I have only purchased one in my lifetime, and never will again.

Threw mine across the room and into my BTM stash after tasting that nasty stuff.

It was hilarious when he threw the suntints lol

At least, nothing has sold out out. It seems like a lot of people are skipping BD... or maybe just waiting for HC.

i know where you are coming from but i never have much time in the morning to do my face. i don't like spending crazy amounts of time making something work. if it doesn't work how it should then it goes in the bin! that said tonight i shall be spending a while on my face because i'm going out tonight :) woo hoo!
I don't consider using a base as trying to make a product work. Using bases are extremely common in makeup application. I'm a full time student, work on campus, and at the counter. The only reason why I have a lot of time to do my face is because I naturally wake up early. I'm the girliest gal you'll ever meet so I always make sure I have time to pamper myself and look pretty. I was raised by my grandmother who is the epitome of girly so that's where that comes from. lol Hope you had fun!

Yea, Spice lip liner has a little pink/rosy hue to it. I suggest trying Hover or Cork... But I'd bet on Cork.

I don't have long to get ready in the morning, but I always put a paintpot underneath my e/s - there's no way in hell my eye makeup would last the 10 to 12 hours a day I spend in a hospital otherwise!

Do you use anything under your PP's?

I have SUPER oily lids and the only thing working for me at the moment even partially is the NARS primer. I have Painterly but never really used it much - especially alone as I figure I'll get crease city otherwise, lol.

Are there any must-have products in this collection? I took a brief look and didn't see anything but I haven't looked into any reviews for it.

I have super oily lids too but Painterly works really well for me ^^ Paint pots are not like other cream stuff, but of course if it's really hot and you only have a paint pot on without an eyeshadow on top it will crease.. use the Nars primer under them, but you can use them alone as a base under powder eyeshadows!

The reviews for most of the products in this collection are not positive at all. The lipsticks and mascaras seem ok but thats it.

I tested them fresh out of the box - literally - at my local MAC - i was the first one to have a go at them. Generally speaking, they started out dry, did not go on smoothly, and to get even color i had to put them on more thickly than i would like. Different colors went on differently - some were a bit better behaved than others, but none were really good. Also, I found them not very easy to blend out. In short, my experience was not so different from T's.

First, i found ALL the liners difficult to apply and control. I rarely have trouble controlling liners - i grew up in the days of cake liners and mostly very fine tight lining with clean edges using very fine brushes - and i have passed through the days of smudgy eye pencils/crayons. But these dragged and tugged on my lids (and i moisturize them! and had on UD PP) and they made very uneven, blotchy lines. I doubt that was MAC's intent, unless they really wanted that punk, i don't know what i'm doing and i don't give a #$%@* look - and one can get that with some really cheap DS lines and not pay MAC prices.

Little Miss Moffet - black liner - white shadow - both opaque and matte
Black liner - I don't wear black on my eyes (except the occasional mascara - but i prefer dark brown) so i didn't bother with it.
White shadow - it was among the better behaved shadows, quite opaque, somewhat blendable, but if i want a white cream shadow, i'll get some other brand.

Drag, Strip - sparkly blackened navy liner - opaque matte sky blue shadow
Liner: blackened navy with navy sparkles - i don't wear navy anything and this wasn't exciting on my arm and did not go on very smoothly, so i didn't bother to test it on my eyes.
Very light sky blue shadow, opaque & matte, went on OK, but it didn't just glide on and it just kinda sat there - the color was... ok..., but i really did not like the look of its consistency or finish.

Beth or Glory - dark brown liner - royal blue shadow - both opaque and matte
Dark brown liner - on me the brown liner looked quite matte, thick, opaque, dead - not an enhancement - i wear a lot of different brown liners in matte, satin, and shimmer finishes, and this was just no joy at all - it looked like caca.
Royal blue shadow - very bright and intense. In the photos it looks like it has a little sparkle, but that seemed pretty insignificant on my lids. It's a lovely color, but not one i wear often, and again, to get good color it went on thick and a bit uneven.

Beth Mask - this was the one i was most interested in - both are colors i wear - both have shimmer - and both looked nice in the photos
Bronze shimmer liner - it was so tough to get on evenly - i didn't hate the color, but the application and coverage were terrible.
Peach shimmer shadow - it was less awful, but i had to go over my lids several times to get even coverage and that sure didn't feel good.
In the end i looked like i'd been in a bar fight a few days before and there were recovering bruises on my eyes (and, i reiterate - these are colors i actually wear in other products that look nice!) I was very disappointed because i was ready to love this - and there was just no love.

"Makeup is all about tools and technique" is one of the first things our senior artist said to us during training and it's my favorite quote of hers. With that being said.. tomorrow for work I'm going to use Beth Mask again and post my look. I will be using 3 products to create my eye look: paint pot in Soft Ochre, Beth Mask and Cranberry eye shadow. And the ONLY brush I will use is a 217 brush. Like I said, I'm not trying to sell this product because it's not going to help my commission anyway.. I always want people to buy what makes them happy. The point is to show that reviews from people who lack technique should be taken with a grain of salt and that contrary to popular belief you don't have to put in hard work or "effort" to make this product work. I noticed that the people who said it didn't work used a primer or nothing at all... just applied it straight out of the tube... of course it's going to come out blotchy. LOL

Yeah I don't count bases either because every part of the face needs a "base" for the product to work effectively. Moisturizer/primer/concealer for face, paint pot/concealer/etc. for eyes, and balm/concealer/etc. for lips. Now when it comes to layering products like 2 blushes, 2 lipsticks, etc. thats too much work for me so I'm only interested in products that will work "single" handedly. Also like you mentioned about technique playing a factor as well, not everyone is skilled or prefer a more "technical" method when appyling make-up. Thats the beauty of make-up being able to find your "face" and the products that will compliment your look. Not all products are for everyone, doesn't mean the product is bad, it's just out of that persons comfort zone.
