MAC Magnetic Nude Collection (December 26, 2013)

Hello, my fellow makeup addicts!

I'm new to Specktra, although I've been a lurker before and I really appreciated (and still do) that you share your information, swatches, etc. on here! It's been really helpful for me because here in Germany the collections are released a bit later than in the US.

Anyway - Originally I had planned a big haul for Magnetic Nude but after thinking about it I'll probably only get Morning Rose and At Dusk. I've got enough eyeshadows to last me a lifetime (well, it's not like that I haven't got enough blushes and lipsticks...) and I'm not interested in lipgloss and the MSFs. Not to mention that I want to cut down on my spendings on cosmetics in 2014...

Still looking forward to this collection because I think it is a pretty collection with some basics that a lot of people can wear.

Ok so my mua called me to come check this out. I wish she would've told me she only had the lippys and a lipglass (oh my darling) plus the fluid lines and eyeshadows which I wasn't interested in. She also had at dusk (blush) which I didn't even bother with because it looked too pale for me and oddly similar to shell pearl. Anyway. Here are the lippys Left to right: close contact. Sensual spark. And magnetic rose

The swatches are comparisons. So from left to right, too to bottom: 1 row Sensual sparks Magnetic rose 2nd row Blankety Viva glam II Creme de nude Honeylove Close contact. Last pic is me w all the glorious ness of no makeup and after workout face. (Please ignore) wearing close contact with some OMD lipglass. My analysis: although I'm pissed that the blush and skin finishes aren't there. At least I know I won't be gettin the lippys. Don't get me wrong: they're beautiful nudes. But similar to stuff I have. Close contact is an amplified version of honeylove IMO. Very good quality tho, amazing coverage and it feels amazing on lips. So if you don't have honeylove, go for it... If you have HL, but you want a slighty brighter version by all means. Sensual sparks is too brown for my skin tone but I can see darker skin tones rocking this. Morning rose was pretty too but I didn't try it on. Sorry for the short number of pics, I would've loved to take more of the fluid lines and the eyeshadows but my phone died!

@LoveLo lol well close contact is pinker and a bit lighter but with nudes its tricky, in my opinion you have to swatch them on your own skintone to have an accurate review.. on my hand it loks a bit different but on my lips both colors were awfully similar. and if you dont have Honeylove, go get it! lol.
close contact is amplified so it was brighter and creamier than Honeylove (matte)... they just looked similar on me since some of my natural coloring pulled through a bit. CC does completely cover with about 3 coats of the product...

I definitely want Close Contact.. In fact, I will likely buy TWO of them.. I love peachy nude colors..

Just looking at the swatches -- it looks like Close Contact might be similar to Playing Koi ?!?!.. Maybe a tad bit darker than Playing Koi...?? PK is one of my favorite Mac lipsticks ever... I don't know if I am going to get anything else.. I already have Superb..

I've been super busy and haven't been able to come back and go through the thread, but Morning Rose is more grey than Gem of Roses. It's a little dirtier (so not as bright) and a with less brown undertone. I think you could say it's the more subdued version, for people who felt GoR was a little too pink, cute and young. This one is more mature.

Carnal Instinct is very similar to my dear love Subverted, lighter than Subverted by a bit and a little more yellow in it (just a touch). You could maybe say a cross between Subverted and Show-All. I'm not sure I will get it, since I have plenty of Subverted, but if you missed it, or didn't want to get it without trying it in person, now you can have something similar.

I'm going to go back and take a second look at everything this week - things have been super hectic!

I don't think BUs of powder products expire more quickly if you don't use them at all. If they've never been opened, they shouldn't go bad.

As long as they're not used wet, powders never expire, opened or not.

Is CI really frosty? Of more like a cremesheen with some shimmer?

I wasn't interested in Morning Rose, but now I wonder whether it'll be the natural pink lipstick I've been looking for. I'm also interested in all the other lipsticks, either Magnetic Appeal or Fairly Precious, depending on swatches, and Autoerotique and/or Pleasure Model. As I also want one of the Huggable Lip Colors and 2 lipsticks from Punk Couture, this counts as a big haul for me. I'll be away from home so I'll have to order without seeing the products in person.

My only slight qualm about buying more ED stuff is that, for me, they've tended to pop out of the pans. I have 4 ED products (2 eyeshadows, 1 blush, one SF), and 2 of them have popped out of the pan. They've remained intact, but I worry that it makes them so much more vulnerable.

It REALLY does! It's been compared to Gem of Roses... so if you don't have that, I think it's going to be a great staple! I'm def going to grab it! I think it was Liba who mentioned this is a difficult collection to judge based on swatches. Since it's "nude" and everyday colors, rather than in-your-face bolds that stand out in a swatch. She recommended seeing it in person if you can. That's what I'm going to try to do so I don't over-buy. Good luck with your list hun! let us know what you pick up! Venus lipstick as in from Heavenly Creatures Collection is similar to Morning Rose?

I think for me the fluidlines, Steel kiss gloss, Autoerotique blush and maybe Silver Dawm e/s. Nothing else is really grabbing me.

Morning Rose is a go. Why do Instigator and PC look the same there?

She probably accidentally swatched the same one. It's been known to happen. Even in my swatches they're different, and that's on paper.
