RUH-ROH.
This does not bode well........

I just pressed lightly on the surface and my finger basically fell into it! It's a shame too because the color of Golden in this release is much less yellow than I remember it being in the permanent line, in fact it is nearly the same color as Aphrodite's Shell, just with a bit more pigmentation when built up, and with golden shimmer.
Also, I wasn't even going crazy for the packaging in this collection UNTIL I SAW THIS IN REAL LIFE. It is fucking gorgeous!

The good news is that MAC is refunding me and letting me keep the bronzer AND this issue is being reported to the higher ups since I told them I had heard on other forums that this was more than a one-off issue. My advice would be to steer clear of buying this until someone sorts out the issue because I can't imagine that this is not going to fall apart into a giant dust storm if I try to take it anywhere besides my vanity.

*Swatches of AS next to Golden coming shortly

Glad you got a refund. This bronzer will fall quickly apart when you use it. :-(

I hope MAC releases a bronzer in square packaging again. The square pans have a different bottom that grabs the powder much better than the round pans.

@ahoythere Golden and Aphrodite's Shell looks very similar in your swatches, so I think you just saved me from buying both. Would you say that Golden has more shimmer than AS when swatched and blended?

The round pans have flat, smooth surfaces whereas the square ones have ridges where the pressed powder remains much better in place (see pic of the Optical Bronzer from the AoP collection). HTH

I would say that Golden has more shimmer + sparkle. AS is like a suuuuper subtle barely discernible glow, not shimmery, sparkly, or shiny, just a really low level sheen. Personally I am crazy for all of the ED items because their texture just smoothes right into the skin, so I love this bronzer even though it is warmer toned than all of us NWs were all hoping for.

Color wise I would say that neither of these is particularly suited to NWs, I am ok with them because I am moving from London back to LA and I know I traverse the spectrum as I get tanner and can pull off warmer toned colors, but if I were staying in London I probably would swap them away and stick to my Light Lush Bronze!

I haven' t hit pan on my Optical yet so haven' t noticed a difference.

And I really had no idea of the effect the ridges have. Thank you again!

Beautiful! Thanks for this (although my wallet is not thanking you :p)

Is it just me or is Golden more pink than AS...?
I tried to take pics in a variety of lights, and in some of them Golden does seem to have more pink, but I think it actually has more orange-red in it, so still more warm toned than 'pink'.

I'm as yellow-undertoned as they come, and I can't warm up to these bronzers. I much prefer red-undertones in bronzers because they look so much more natural on me. I don't tan to a golden-brown and find that the bronzers that are recommended for me look like fake-bake.

Give me a nice subtle bronzer intended for NWs any day; my current love is Guerlain Terracotta 00. Expensive, but so perfect that I don't mind.

Thanks! I think I will order AS when the collection goes up here and go check out Golden in store and see if they are all on the softer side as I for sure don't need something that's going to break easily. I am just a bit lighter than NC25 at the moment, so I should have no problem wearing either bronzer.

You and that bronzer!!!! You are everywhere talking up your new love! I try to ignore it but I fear that if you don't stop talking about it eventually I will succumb....
All aboard the Guerlain Bronzer Wagon!

The Terracotta isn't even the fancy one I love - just the basic one. I could go on some more about the Sun Celebration one though. Have I mentioned how glorious it is?
