I think it has a lot to do with the backlash they are getting for selling in China, when people started freaking out over it is when they started with all the sales and getting rid of a lot of perm items and now the hardly any collections.I assume there has been a big change of MAC's marketing team. Otherwise I have no idea why they changed their strategy. The MAC Girls collection clearly shows that they want to target new consumers.

Cult of Cherry was fabulous! So was Fabulous Felines, the Makeup Art Collection, even A Noble Romance... There were so many fun and fabulous big summer collections too...
I miss the MAC of years past...
Fall was always my fave collection of the year!
I've almost completely moved to other brands now. I still use my MAC eyeshadow palettes (the custom neutral ones), but I haven't bought much in the last couple of years although I did some damage with the Fruity Juicy collection. Cardboard MAC girl palette though? Not interested. I wouldn't even get them for my teen daughter because of some of the names. I used to think UD and NARS had some sketch brand names, but these are worse.
Most of my new shadows are UD and Anastasia (went on a binge with their singles this summer) and Vice lipsticks are slowly edging out the MAC ones in my stash. I do still replace my favourite lip pencils as they run out (Chicory, Soar, Absolutely It, Half Red), but I have more 24/7 than MAC now.
On the plus side, I've hit pan on lots of e/s and quite a few blush. I'll probably replace the shadows, but not the rest.
I've been buying MAC for 25 years, and I'm not sure that I can say they're my favourite in ANY category any more. It's too bad.
I am also looking into UD now. I always liked the hunt and hype around MAC, but I have my eyes on other brands too. Still hesitant though. Once you draw a line in the sand...
Well, I would say that my brand loyalty has been excellent so far. Not just for cosmetics, but also for clothing and food. It also boils down to time commitment. Chasing one brand is a lot of work, shopping around and being selective is even more work and time. I will observe how MAC develops in the near future. There has been a lot of change in the last years, thus I assume there will be change ahead of us - hopefully for the better. I really like the UD eye primer. It works like a charm.Does it need to be all or nothing? Can you not continue to enjoy the MAC products you love while also branching out, or do you like committing to a single brand? It's not that I won't buy MAC...they just don't give me nearly as many reasons as they used to.
As far as UD goes, I really like the Vice lipsticks (other than the thicker packaging that takes up more space) and the 24/7 liners are excellent. I don't have any UD single shadows, but I enjoy their palettes. I have all of the Naked Palettes and Afterdark. I find them more pigmented than MAC (although not as much as Anastasia) but it's simple enough to adjust my technique slightly to use less product.
While virtually all my stash was MAC about 5 years ago, I started exploring other brands and found new favourites.
Foundation: MUFE HD, Bobbi Brown BB Cream/Stick Foundation and Guerlain
Bronzer: Guerlain, hands down. I also really like Bobbi Brown Antigua and Maui.
Powders: Laura Mercier, Guerlain
Blush: NARS, MUFE HD cream, Bobbi Brown pot rouges
Lipstick: UD Vice
I still have a lot of MAC products that I really like, but over time the MAC portion of my stash is shrinking as most of what I buy is non-MAC. Not even half is MAC anymore, when it used to be about 95%.
There is apparently a collection coming out tomorrow called Pretty Innocent which is the Tendertalk Lip Balms and 4 new Casual Colours, but it looks like it might be Asia only.
