I think even the short-handled and regular-length permanent 217s (along with all the other permanent brushes) are made in China and synthetic now as well. I recommend a Hakuhodo J5523. It's maybe a touch bigger than the 217 in terms of brush shape, but it is made with (very soft) goat hair, has...
