i know some people arrange them by light to darkness in colour. but me personally just group them together as best as i can. like dark browns on one row, light browns on the next and the golds on the next. no right or wrong way of doing things

mine are grouped by color....pinks in one, blacks/greys in one, purples in one, etc. and then within the palette the color go from dark to light.....

In regards to the magnet - any magnets should work. Most people buy the little round ones.

You need to stick the magnet to the back of the eyeshadow pan as the palette itself is not magnetized. It just has the metal for the magnet to "stick" to

Put the four colours that you use the most in the 4-pan, so that you have less to bring to the bathroom with you to do your makeup (assuming that you do your makeup in your bathroom).

Then what I would do is put the other ones in the 15 palette, from lightest to darkest, starting on the top left.

I group my shadows together by colour, the neutral palette I'm currently building up gradates from light to dark shadows. I agree with thiscarmen too about the quad, it's always nice to have the shadows you use the most grouped together. If they're in a quad you can travel with them a little more easily too if you've not got much room in a bag or just need some quick staple shadows in a rush.
