a bad experience...

I went for a manicure today and it was a DISASTER.

Why? Here's what happened...
There's a women only salon a few blocks away from my house so I went with a friend to each get manicures today.
The manicurist was very nice, and seemed to be a proffessional. Anyways, before we started I told her I had a bleeding disorder (von Willebrand disease, and if I get injured it takes a long time to stop bleeding) and to please be careful. She just dismissed it like it was no problem and told me she'd be careful.

Well, she cut my cuticles and when I went to wash my hands I couldn't get two of my fingers to stop bleeding. I ended up having to end the manicure early, pay, and go home to compress my fingures and later stopped the bleeding.

I've been treated for von Willebrand since I was 2 yrs old and I know how to deal. I wear ID, make sure I tell anyone who's doing an aesthetic treatment that I have it, and usually they're pretty good. Like last time I had my nails done, my cuticles were trimmed but she was careful enough that there was no bleeding.

Just make sure if you have any kind of disorder that affects skin, blood, or whatever to tell your manicurist and make sure they understand >.<
~30 USD wasted today.

I don't like manicurists to cut my cuticles (I thought it was illegal in the States? maybe just a rumour). So I always make sure to ask the lady to push them, not cut them.

$30 in Amman?! Sweetie you were soooo over charged. I get my hair done, eyebrows, make-up, hair dye, and hair cut for $50 in Amman - and that was in Abdoun too! I never had complaints either.

I've always heard you shouldn't get ur cuticles cut so maybe next time you go just don't let them cut your cuticles at all.

I did pay; I think I was overcharged too. Oh well. Just won't go back there again.

I always have my cuticles cut because I can't stand the extra dead skin there. But I think next time I'll do my own cuticles beforehand.

Oh, and in the states cuticle cutting isn't illegal. It's when they use the little blades on your feet to cut off dead skin that's illegal (right?).

I never get my cuticles cut, for me, if they are cut my cuticles are raggedy in about two days. I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience.

Oh my god - what a horrible experience! Why did you pay her?! You should have just walked out, there's no way she deserved her money for that. That's ridiculous! I would certainly call her manager and complain about that. Anyone worth anything as a manicurist should know to listen to her customer's problems!!

That is horrible. I am sorry this happened to you. You should have said something to a manager or store owner or should say something although it is over and done with, at least bring it to their attention. Please, do not go back to him/her.

That's horrible. Unfortunately, she cut more than your cuticles. She cut your living skin. Cuticle is dead tissue that surrounds the eponychium and lies on the nail plate. Often, if there's too much to push back only, the manicurist nips what's visible for a neater, cleaner appearance. This is harmless, if done correctly. In your case, it wasn't.
