A 'base' vs a 'wash' ... ? E/s question

If I use a paintpot or UDPP as my e/s base, is this the same as a 'wash' or what is the difference? If they are different, why would you use both? Where do you apply a wash? Thanks for any insight, sorry for the dumb questions!

No they are NOT the same.

A base is something you want to set your shadows on for better color payoff and to make it stay on longer. UDPP is only a primer base, it has no color.

Now, paintpots however, can be used alone as a WASH. A wash of color (hint of color) on the lids if you are using it alone without any shadows. Shadows can also be used as a wash if you're just using ONE color on the lid. and blend it out to make it look natural.

A base is a product you would put on before eyeshadow application. Something like UDPP or paint pots, paints, etc. They are there to help 1) prevent creasing/fading and 2) to pop out color! Like the poster above said that yes, you can use a paint pot or similar as a wash.

So what's a wash? Well it is using an eyeshadow either with or without a base and swiping it across the lid lightly. Basically just putting any color on the lid and applying a with a light hand. Washes are usually sheer.

HTH!
