A bittersweet day

This is what I wore on Mother's Day. Not quite what one might picture for the day, but I don't typically stick to what's conventionally appropriate for specific things. While grabbing some last minute items at Safeway, I asked my 4 year old daughter if she's embarrassed to have the mom with the bright makeup LOL.

I spent the day at my mom's, with her, my daughter, my brother, my mom's parents and her younger sister. I made pancakes, scones, sausage, and mimosas. My aunt made a frittata and my grandma made a fruit salad. After brunch, I took a nap... I'd been up for over 7 hours at that point, on my feet for most of it, and was emotionally worn out. It was a nice day, but it was bittersweet as it was the second Mother's Day without my son.

I love this look. It's very dramatic and it kind of reminds me of the Japanese plays.

Also, Happy belated Mothers Day. I got a chance to read your post and I just want to say that you have a very beautiful son. I say have and not had because I believe that he will always be with you--in your heart and in your memory.
