A guy needs help :]

Hi everyone. I'm a 22 year old guy.
I really need some help regarding makeup. I haven't worn any before, but I had a question about it.
I don't really have many spots, but I do have a couple of flaws from when I had acne for about 8 years. I've only recently got over it, but I want to be able to cover up some things lightly because it really affects my confidence. I have one tiny, but noticeable scar that needs to be covered, and some other tiny flaws. I also wouldn't mind being able to cover my under eye circles. I have darker Italian looking skin. I just want to have great skin so I can walk with my head held high, and not worry that people are judging me. As I said before, not having clear skin for 8 years has affected my confidence, and I want to make changes. It might sound shallow(?) to change my appearance, but it will make me happy.

This is all new to me. But I got the courage to ask my sister and she said get something from Mac.
I wanted to know what I need? There's words like concealer, foundation, powders, what types of brushes, moisturiser, that people throw around and I don't really know what to do about it. I'm planning to go to a store to get my shade later next week. I'm not looking to put on full on makeup, maybe just lightly and to cover up some flaws. If I have to cover my face then I'd like to do it lightly so it's not noticeable. Can you give me some advice please? What do you think?

And by the way - would you have a problem with a guy wearing it? Or, is it possible to do it so people don't notice?

Thanks :]

I'm a guy, slightly under 20 and here's my take on it:

There's nothing wrong with the way you think, it's definitely not shallow when you want to look your best and if it makes you happy and confident!

Personally, what I use and I think will probably work well for you too is to use powder foundation. I just use it to cover slight redness and bit of acne. Since you have relatively clear it should work. I personally don't use concealer ( I never have dark eye circles even if stay up all night heh :p ) if you're covering under eye circles you should probably get some more liquid-ey as opposed to something creamy, those might cake up and look noticeable to others.

Even though you've gotten over your acne you should still take of your skin, with at least some Face Wash/Cleanser (Daily), Moisturizing Daily, and Exfoliating/Scrubbing 2-3 times a week.

As for brushes, since you're not doing a full face of makeup you probably dont need to splurge on high end expensive brushes. For the foundation you should get a brush. I personally like the Real Techniques Face Kit its around ~$15 at Ulta comes with 4 face brushes.

Let me know how it goes!

It is good you have all these questions because the people at the MAC store will be able to help you. Once they colour match you you can tell them your concerns and that you want to cover some spots for a smoother, more even look without going heavy. Good makeup applied correctly ought to look natural and not noticeable at all, except to you! Depending on what the MAC MUA says will depend on what brush(es) you will need. Concealer can be applied with your finger, but sometimes for blending out a brush is nicer. Depends on the areas you are going to put it on as well. And the same goes for foundation brushes. My best advice is to try things one at a time. If they say you can use a concealer, then foundation and powder to top it off, you might load too much on your face at the same time. If something doesn't agree with your skin and makes you break out, you won't know which one it is, and that can be very frustrating, so try and introduce your skin to new products over a period of time...2-4 weeks for each one. Play around with it and see how much more (or less) you want, if the colour is right, is it doing the job you want it to, or is it not quite enough, etc. And have lots of fun with it! :)

All I use is the following and it works perfect ... 1/3 Moisturizer 1/3 Foundation 1/3 Tinted Moisturizer And I conceal where needed ... Depending on the coverage that you need thats where your foundation and tinted moisturizer would vary but I find that it leaves my skin looking dewy and natural ! You can also use blot powder if you dont want that dewy look but it turns out to be super nice looking !
