A hard decision...

Evening everyone!

I've got so much questions in my head since 2 days that I think it's going to explode... so I though maybe it'll be helpful to post something here and have some wise advices from you guys...

Here's what I'm tortured about: I haven't really worked since a year (just one time in a year to be precise, since I got my mu diploma) and I really really need to make money. I kept writing to movie productions, mu shops, opera, local theaters and to MAC and I had an interview with them on May (a really good one, everything was nearly settled) and nothing since then... I've been waiting to do my demo so I called, called, called to have an answer but still, nothing. I was really annoyed about that, thought they didn't want me in the end.

Finally, another shop called me yesterday (it's a beauty-care shop, nothing to do with mu) and I've got an interview with them on monday. I thought: "Wow, that 's great for a start, even if it's not mu related".
And OF COURSE, like it was meant to be, a girl from MAC called me this afternoon to set my demo the 4th of September...
So I'm torn between those two opportunities, even though it's not sure I'll be given the job at MAC at the end of the demo. And, as I wanted to keep some free time to continue my researches with movie productions (that's what I want to do) I asked both for a part-time job. But everyone is telling me that I should ask for a full-time to make some money and after that, it'll be more easier to find something in my branch... it seems wiser I know but what if...?

If you guys could give me your opinion about that, it would be soooo nice. I need my mind to become clearer

Eh.
I'm of the mind that if I need a job, I need a job, and I'll take the one I can 'do' until the one I 'want' comes along.
MAC seems to be slow in offering once a demo is done, so I'd keep that in mind in my decision making.

Am I the only one who think that it's not very straight/honest from MAC, to let somebody stew in his own juice??

not really.
Applying for a job and going through the interview isn't a promise of the job...I think they like to keep their options open. It sucks for the interviewee, but it's pretty common. :/

I kinda understand that. As lot of people want to work at MAC, they sure had to make numerous selection procedures to sift out the best candidates for the job.
I send my covering letter on February 2006, had a call and my interview on May and my demo is in September... god, I wasn't prepared to wait that long :crap:

Yeah, you undersand now why I was so upstet...
Maybe it was because I made an unsolicited application, but during the interview, they told me: "that's ok, we have vacancies so let's do a makeup test next week"... hum...

You said it

Well anyway... I think I am a little bit more confident about my interview on monday. No way to wait after MAC one more time!

Thanks again, you were very quick to answer, I appreciate it

Have you considered freelancing? It's easier to get hired, you set your own hours and you have your foot in the door when you are ready to go permanent...good luck with your interview!

Actually no, I've never really thought of freelancing

... how does it work for you?

I don't know if it's that easy in France to work as a freelance mua, I believe that you must have loads of contacts already, and a fair amount of money before that...
