i don't know where i should post this thread...but i posted it under common questions and i guess u can't post new topics..

my friend has i guess what you call "hooded" eyes that angle down...i try and try to get a cat-eye on her and i can never get it right!

i want to perfect this because i want to break into the makeup business but i feel like if i can't do something as simple as this...i'm done lol

if i bring the line out it completely disappears and gets a crease (her eyes crease easily) and if i follow her lash line the cat eye just goes down...it looks like a smudged mess at the end...

she said a MAC MUA gave her a cat-eye perfectly (of course lol) so i know it's possible...can someone give me tips or suggest a good tutorial or website on it? i would really appreciate it

thanks guys

err, I have done so many hooded eyes and while lining can be done minimally, the line must be drawn like this:
1. Since her eyes are hooded, you must use a waterproof liner like a Bobbi Brown Gel, or MAC fluidline. Pencils or powders will smudge and crease up.
2. See what the proportion of her eyelid is -- is it very small (like Asian eyes) or is there some visible lid?
3. Once you decide what type of line to draw, go slowly with the waterproof product and when you get to the outer half of the eye (past the cornea) start winging upwards lightly -- no heavy lines for this eye. If you extend too far past the contour line you will crease so you must stop lining at this point. Keep it sharp and pointy.

You can also use a neutral (no sparkly or frosted shadow) to create an uplift on a hooded eye (from the contour crease upwards and out)... maybe someday I will get the time/courage to do a tut on this!

Good luck:

I third the request for the tutorial. My eyes are soooooo hooded, I get so frustrated. I never wing it because I can't ever make it look right.

With a hooded eye, the lids look partly closed. So, to open up the eye, you can use makeup to minimize the eyelid.
  • Start by drawing more attention to your eyebrows. Ensure they are properly shaped and use them to entice interest upwards from the eyelid.
  • Cover the skin from the brow bone to the upper lash line with the highlight color.
  • Next apply the mid shade to most of the surface of the eyelid.
  • With the contour shade, brush on the outer half of the lid and up towards the brow.
  • Follow with a fine line of contour under the lower lashes.
  • This eye type really benefits from having eye makeup – either shadow or eyeliner - under the lower lashes.
  • When using eyeliner, also extend the line from the outer upper lashes slightly past the edge of the eye.

Tough with hooded eyes, i had this problem starting out also... You just have to know how they work... hard to say in writing, but you need to line all the way to the hood, then start angling AFTER the hood... keep her eyes open the whole time...
Angling before the hood ends means itll be lost in hoodiness - not cool.
