I saw the cutest kitten at petsmart, and just fell in love with him but i had to get my parents permission first. And they said its ok that I can get another cat! yay! But I got my first cat from my bf so I dont really know how this adoption process goes. Do you just ask the poeple that work their that you are ready to adopt a cat? or have to call the number listed on their info first? Do they interview you and asks you questions about your lifestyle so that they know that kitten will be in a safe place? how does this work?

At our Petsmart, they have a fairly detailed application process so you should ask for the adoption app first. It'll ask about your habits in terms of work and school, other house members, who's responsible for the animal, if you have other animals and what has happened to any previous animals if you have rehomed them or they have passed away, if you have a vet already and so on. When we adopted out cat, they asked for references and, if we had a vet, they would have done a vet check, which they did do when we adopted our dog. Also, at our Petsmart, they have specific adoption days, like Wednesday and Saturday - since the animals come from a shelter, it's when their people can be there so odds are you won't be able to just go in, say you want the cat and take it home with you the same day.

Good luck!

Do you have to be a certain age to adopt? And what about vaccinations? Do you have to give the cat vaccinations right away? My other cat has done all her vet checks but she isnt on the wellness plan anymore because it lasts a year but she has got spayed and got the other important shots done like rabies and lukemia and fecal tests. The last time she got checked was after her surgery for spaying. Would that hold against you if ur cat isnt on the wellness plan if they are going to check out the records?

The dogs and cats offered for adoption at Petsmarts come from local animal rescues (I volunteer at one in my city), Petsmart has very little to do with the process or how it is done, if you ask an employee, they will direct you to rescue personnel. For us, you have to be 18, all vaccinations and spaying/neut. is already done. You have to fill out an app that asks for references, whether you have a vet etc and if you don't have a vet, we give you information on the one we use. You have to live somewhere that allows pets and if you don't own your home, we have to have a letter from your landlord stating you can have pets. Finally, we will call and follow-up the adoption to make sure everything is okay and you have to sign a contract stating that if you ever have to give the animal up for any reason, you will bring it back to us.

Hope that helped
