advice on piercings?

okay...so currently i have both my ears pierced, one has two holes the other only has the one. i pierced my nose a while ago but took it out because my dad hated it.

i'm going to be 18 in 2.5 months, which means even though he won't like it, i can get whatever the hell i want. and i want my nosering back. and i'm also going to want some lip action. i'd like snakebites but i'm not sure if they'd look good on me because i feel like my lips are too small for two. so if not snakebites, there will definately be one to the side.

my boyfriend has his lip pierced, and we were talking about how i wanted to get the nose and lip all at the same time so everything will be healed at the same time. even snakebites, i want to get both done at the same time. he said not to because his hurt so much that he thinks getting two done at once would be too painful, especially because i laugh alot (his ripped when he laughed/smiled)...

but he did his himself with a nail, so i'm wondering if i get it professionally done, will i still have to worry about it ripping when i smile/laugh/talk?

also, i know you're not supposed to put rings in most piercings right when you get them done but i HATE how nose studs look on me, so is it possible to pierce it and then go into a ring the next day or within a few days after getting the piercing?

First of all, getting snakebites is going to hurt way less getting it done professionally so i wouldn't be worried about getting both at the same time and you don't want to get them done at different times because it's so much harder for the piercer to match them up. Studs are definately way better for healing but you could change to rings once your swelling goes down since you would be given longer posts anyways to accomidate for the swelling...unfortunately they should not be changed for about 3 weeks because depending on your body, your swelling may take that long to go down and changing them too soon will create more swelling, also there wouldn't be enough scar tissue fistula formed to possibly keep your piercing open during the jewelry change. Concerning whether or not your lips are too thin...I don't see a problem with it and have actually done many with thinner lips that still look amazing. They will be sore for a bit, after all you are getting a piercing, but with the longer initial posts with 14g jewelry, they should not tear when you smile, be careful with them and treat them nice and they will treat you nice, so take extra time eating and just be aware of them when you are talking or smiling for the first bit. HTH!

I got my nose pierced back in 97! I love it. I had a ring at first, and after about 6 weeks I changed to a stud. I wear tiny studs. I also had my tongue pierced. That did not hurt at all. The part that did hurt to me was the after effects. Couldn't eat for a week, all I could eat was soup and ramen noodles. LOL Wasn't that bad though. After a year and half, I had a c-section and they made me take it out. I forgot to put it back in and it closed. I also chipped my tooth when I had it. I liked it though. Those are the only major piercings I had. I had the top of my ear, but that s**t hurt to much I took it out. Good luck.

The nose by far was the easiest of all my piercings.
The lip was a sudden wave of pain for some reason, but the healing really sucked (I would wake up in the morning & it would be stuck in place like the pink-eye crusties.
My nipples were weird-the right one hardly hurt, but the left one killed. I am ashamed to say I actually screamed a little-pathetic, I know.
& my ear was a project-got an industrial first, that didn't hurt too badly, no more than a typical ear piercing, but better since it wasn't done with a gun, but then a few weeks later I went back to get an orbital around the industrial...that was the worst-well, I got it done like 5 years ago, so from what I remember it was death....they poke the holes through & then have to twist & bend & thread the ring into place...it felt like an eternity, I still can't leave my industrial out from more than a few minutes w/o it closing, haven't ever taken the orbital out (apparently the hoop is too small & I would only be able to get it out if I cut the ring) but then again, I found out afterward, that the guy piercing me was an aprentice & didn't have the best reputation for being...ummm...sober while working (but hey, I had just turned 17 & that was the only piercing place within an hour of me at the time)

Not that that has much to do with what you asked, but that's my pain/healing experience.

Other than my nose & industrial-everything was pierced with a captive bead hoop. The healing on the nose wasn't bad at all. I'd say give it until the recommended healing time is just about done before you change it to a ring though...and go to a piercing place to get the appropriate sized hoop for your face, you don't want to buy one off the street or from Hot Topic or some place that won't give you the correct size.

Your right about the hoop! I asked the guy to give me a hoop that would match my face. I didn't want a big ol' bull ring in my nose! LOL

i got my lip pierced 8 days ago and it didn't hurt at all, just a tiny pinch. I've also had my tongue and hood done and those didn't hurt either..piercings are the best, but the one thing i'd be afraid to do are my nipples...ouch!!

I've had a few piercings and the one that hurt the damn most was my tragus! I freakin' almost passed out! After that I swore off piercings b/c I just couldn't deal with the long healing process!!! I'll just stick to tattoos! But I do really want my nose pierced...hmmm...

why on earth did your bf pierce himself with a nail? ..

the only thing you have to worry about if you get both sides of your lip done at the same time is the swelling. i actually favor rings for initial piercings because as long as you get a big enough one, there's not really anything bad about it, i tend to see studs get used and be too small to accompany the swelling and thats when the start to get swallowed into the skin, (not good). i've had my lip for 3 years and by far it was my easiest piercing. my ears have been stretched lots, and my septum has been stretched too, i just got my nouble nostrils which have been slightly problematic because of getting torn out a few times, my conch was a pretty hard piercing too and my nips were done twice, and hurt much less the second time. yeahhh

i got my nipples done at 10g.. holy SHIT, OW. mother of GOD. but they're the only piercing i've ever had that's never had any problem healing.. they're a dream, lol.

i had 6g ears but i took them out because i got really sick and they were bugging me, but im trying to stretch them back up.

i got my lip done on the right side, just one, with a ring. and frankly, i'd say get it done with a labret stud. even after the swelling went down it was mad painful because every time you bit down onto something or something hit the top of the ring, it would press and move and hurt on the inside.. ugh. i'm seriously debating going back this weekend and getting snakebites, both of 'em, with labret studs. i think its probably a better idea to get them both at the same time.. i mean, itll suck doubly bad for a week, but then its over. if you only get one, and then you want to go back, you have to go through it all over again.

also note that rings are generally better for new piercings like vajenna said, because of the swelling. but they can also be problematic - because the skin/piercing, if it swells a LOT, wont want to curve up the ring, you know? getting it done with a stud is a nono if you get a too-short size.. like say the size you'd wear is 1/2", you want to get it pierced with a 3/4" long stud. and by stud i dont mean the cheap ear piercing gun kind. a real metal labret stud

you may not want to get your nose done at the same time, but i'd definitely do that one with a ring.

and your boyfriend is an idiot for piercing himself with a nail, for serious. that is all have to say about that. get it done professionally, you won't have it ripping, or getting infected.. he's lucky he didn't get it seriously messed up :/
