Woohoo! Some people are saying he didn't deserve it but most of them can't think of someone else who might deserve it more, either. Last year a Bangladeshi guy won for successfully creating a bank that operates on micro-loans, and I was happy then, too.

I don't think he deserves it. I am sure there are MANY other people out there who deserve it more than this huge hypocrite.

What a joke. Maybe when he practices what he preaches, I'll hold him in some esteem. To put this joker in the same category as Mother Teresa or the micro loan guy (which is fascinating btw) is ludicrous.

While i do respect his work and like Al Gore, he didn't deserve it. I don't feel like his work did enough and furthermore, there were other worthy candidates out there. The committee does not receive the names, but someone has claimed that this woman deserved it a lot more than Al Gore. I can't find the specific article I saw with her name linked as a nominee this year, but yeah, she deserved more. She saved Polish homeless and orphans in WWII. I find that more in the spirit of the award, especially considering who received it in the past.

I am glad that Al Gore is giving the money away and not pocketing it.

Gore has been on the green scene for a few decades. I do think he deserved the award ,and really, most people could just care less about the environment. I think we can not do enough to stress that planned obsolecence, waste, and turning a blind eye on the climate crisis is environmental terrorism. Gore has written several books on the environment,he has done his own research trips to Antartica, and he continues to do important work . Environmental activism will save the world if enough people start participating, cut down on their use of fuels, pollute the air less, recycle, use compact flourescent bulbs, and don't generate so much trash. Its a fact that species are becoming extinct and the oceans are rising and becoming less salinated. Its effecting the weather, and in less than 2 decades many islands and many coastal areas will be submerged. Where I live, the beaches are almost gone. If you go to Waikiki beach, the ocean is now a few yards from the hotels, there really is no beach area left. Not only that, but a good tsunami could wipe out a great deal of my state. Last Oct's 6.8 quake with greater than 50 aftershocks could have generated a tsunami .Some people live on mountainsides, but most of our population is at sea level. Global warming will have much of Hawaii submerged, and many Polynesian islands are already submerging. Some Polynesians have been forced to take refuge in New Zealand already. The Gulf Coast and Florida will be hit hard as well as some of the Northeastern Seaboard.

i respect al gore for addressing global warming. Yes, there may be other people out there who may have deserved it more than him, but the fact that he probably got more people's attention about this issue is what matters. A lot of people out there do not pay attention enough to what is happening in our environment and those same people are perhaps more swayed by government. I mean, Im just hoping that something is actually done to fix global warming. NOw that he did his part in educating the community, i really hope he acts upon it. :-D Just my thoughts...

I just don't believe raising awareness is enough. I think his work (which does stem beyond the past year) is impressive, but I don't feel like it's Nobel Peace Prize worthy.
