that same thing happend to me! I tried dying it over several times but it didnt work out so i had to let it grow out . Oh and i was dying over blonde with super dark brown and it still faded and the blonde popped through again!
Sorry this probably doesnt help but yeah
well if it means anything once it gets longer and the highlights are more at the bottom it doesnt look so bad, i actually kind of liked mine towards the end. It looked like giselle bunchens with less blonde on top more on bottom.

I'm surprised your stylist didn't use a permanent dye. the way you describe it as it was a semi/demi permantent dye. She might have thought your hair is to frail for another 'harsher' dye over the bleached sections, that is really up to the health of your hair! Also the 'coloured-hair products' can't do anything to prvent fading...they might be extra moisterizing ,but that's it

so you might be better of paying more for colour and usung regular products for dry hair.
But by going darker with a correct level dye ,you will get rid od the highlights- but maintainance with going darker than your natural colour will bring more visits to the colourist and more maintainance+ think about it because it's always to go darker then lighter....if you can commit to dye your hair every 4 weeks to not look like a crazy person go for it!( trust me i'm blond but dye my hair dark! after three weeks i look like i don't have hair whereever the roots show through LOL)

i guess i'm kind of late on the topic, but there is no way to permanently cover up highlights.
Once you bleach the hair, that is taking out the hair's melanin (color) for good. You can cover it temporarily with color, but eventually it will end up fading, and your highlights will start to show again.

I had highlights for a few months, and loved them, but I had to get rid of them. a lady at my job told me that she didn't think we should use permanent hair color since i'm so young and she doesnt think we had to. So we used a demipermanent color on my hair, and my highlights kept coming back through. She told me that maybe 3 times of doing the demi color, that the highlights would stop peeking through again (dunno how true that it, but i guess we'll see)

anyways...i guess you should just get permanent color. Your hair is healthy so it should be fine. But just know that your highlights may still start showing up again
