But a MAC pallet starting at 99p (and another 20 from the same seller - a new seller with abysmal feedback)... surely alarm bells would ring.

Ahh.. The bargain always make the buyers want to buy. Works like a charm at most times! I didn't know fake MAC exists until I actually googled it because the nagging feeling was there. I thought my bargain was too good to be true because its AU$39 per pigment here and the seller was selling it at $15 per pigment. *sighs* Pays to do your research before you buy anything!
It pisses me off too to see fakers selling counterfeit cosmetics but there's just not much we could do. The most we could do is only warn and its up to the buyers if they want to listen or read. It's their own fault if/when they find out its indeed fake MAC when they've been warned.
I shy away from eBay when it comes to MAC because I know I will be very angry when I see the thousands of fakes listed. Just not worth it, you know. Even if you report their asses, eBay doesn't give a shit or do anything about it. All the fakers/counterfeiters, eBay, Paypal, etc want are money, $$, money.
