Hahah, well I'm not single, but my boyfriend is studying for the year in Belgium so I am definitely anti-Valentine's Day this year and am embittered by all the hearts and flowers going around. My plan is to ignore Valentine's Day and instead celebrate Culturebloom Day two days later.

I actually do have a boyfriend this year (a really wonderful one) but I win the prize for worst V-day ever. My hs bf killed himself on V-day (years ago). It was awful. I spent the next 5 or 6 v-days at home, in bed, drunk. I'm pretty functional now but it's not my favorite holiday

I think it's the most pathetic holiday either!

I mean do you need a day to show your loved one how much you love him??? That's all soo predictable!!

I just set up a date with my best girlfriend!

Oh guess what I get to do on Valentines day. First I get to go to school. I have my boring no guy classes on A days, which happens to be on a Tuesday. Then, at night, I am forced to sit in the freezing, stands for a GIRLS soccer game.

im married, and dont care to celebrate it. its WAY over-rated!!! i think alot of couples end up fighting because of the day. due to not getting anything, wrong thing, etc ...

Well I am joining this thread because I'm married and I know it's going to suck just like every other holiday. My hubby is not the best at buying gifts and then I get upset and pouty so I guess I should just stop hoping he's finally going to surprise me with an awesome gift. It never happens. I never used to buy into the V-day hype anyhow, but 4 years ago on V-Day is when I found out I was pregnant with our son so it made it a special day. Hubby apparently fails to remember every year though. Sucks. Then I feel bad for expecting him to remember. Oh yeah, I get to watch my son all day and then when hubby finally gets home (if he does) I get to go to work. Chances are good that the kid is going to have to come to work with me though because hubby seems to be working later and later. Stupid management position. Uggg, I better get out of here before I get kicked off the board for being bitchy

I'm not single, but I could care less about Valentine's Day. It's a day for people to show each other how much they care, but why not do that everyday? If anything, anniversaries or dates that are more personal should be the days you do something special for each other, not some random holiday.

Uhh, hate to be master of the obvious, but it could be for guys to show girls their love, girls to show girls, guys to show guys...you get the idea.

It's not all about straight single females, you know.

I've always been anti-V day. I find it funny that while my maternal relatives never remember important dates, they sometimes manage to send me a Valentines' Day card???

It's clearly commercial.

Interestingly enough, in Japan they have 'White Day' on MARCH 14th, a month after V-Day where the ladies give their desired man a box of white chocolates. Supposedly, if he wants to accept your affections, he accepts your chocolates, otherwise, he refuses. At least, this is what my Japanese ex tells me.

I do sometimes like to send a nice message or two to some close friends, or make something special for a significant other. I do quite like any old excuse to handmake a silly, but specialised present for any loved one, really. Too much spare time on hands *rolls eyes*

I'm going out with my two suitemates (soon to be housemates next year- YAY) for dinner, oh... and we decided that whatever guy can throw a rock at our window gets to be our valentine. Why is that anti-valentine's day you ask? Because we live on the 23rd floor...

valentine's day is for amateurs! i'm not a big fan of forced expressions of love and we should not allow the greeting card/flower/candy industries to dictate when we declare our feelings to our loved ones. everyone save your money and spend it on culturebloom instead! that's what i'm going to do anyway

i think if you lik/love someone a lot why do you need just one day to tell them that you like/love them you should do that EVERYDAY

I think it's just a little bit of fun. No more or less commercial than Christmas or Easter. No one says it has to be for your partner- it's fun to give lil pressies to your girlfriends too.
