Any recs for funky e/s for "mature" skin?

I'm 36 and looking to change up my normal daytime look a bit and try to have my makeup reflect my funky, punky personality but still be work appropriate. I am new to higher-end eyeshadows and want to purchase some MAC or Urban Decay soon as I love their colors. I'd like to know if anyone has any tips for applying eyeshadows to my slightly crepy, mature eyelids and getting the color on evenly?

Is there an eye cream, primer, or other products that would be specifically reccommended?

Thanks so much.

I have to say Urban Decay Primer Potion works great before putting on your eyeshadows. It makes them last all day! Another choice is mac paints or paint pots, just stay away from the shimmery metallics for crepey lids.
And for mature lids avoid any metallics for the most of your eyeshadow and use matte or veluxe eyeshadows. I can't wait to try the new matte's from urban decay. MAC is also coming out with a great collection of matte's soonish. I'd wear any color in moderation, you just have to find how it works for you.
A big help for getting eyeshadow on evenly is the right brush. There are tons of threads on the topic.

Urban Decay Primer Potion helps the e/s stay on, and go on a bit more smoothly. Also, choose shades with less shimmer/sparkle to downplay crepy lids. All of Pumpkincat210's rec's above are fantastic.

Hey is anyone the big 4 0 here? he he. I am still wearing everything they say not to wear. I just don't wear mini skirts. Wait! Opps, I lied. I wore one yesterday. I wear Barbie watches too. The kids always want my stuff.

Anyway, to answer your question, you have to go with what looks good on you. I used matte eye shadow when I was 20. Now, I want a bit of shimmer, not frost city USA. I mix it up - mattes with shimmer. I don't wear flamming colors either, but I never did. They just are flattering for me. I wear what is flattering for my eyes and skin tone. I like to mix classic with a touch of trend. I've always like subtle sexy. You know what really hiding under that lace. Okay, I am off the subject.

I am also trying colors that I wouldn't have picked years ago. I used to be into bright colors, then I went to muted, now I am in a mix to the two. I am always changing up the look. I have cut my hair shorter than it's ever been since I was 9 y/o. I am wearing heels and shorts (not tramp shorts). This all new for me. I am really starting to try all sorts of new stuff and its really fun. I totally freak out the people at the makeup counter, because I try anything and they aren't use to that. They really don't know how old I am. He he I was asked today if I was undercover shopper. I took that as a compliment.

Party on people ! YEAH!

Party on!

I love Urban Decay Primer Potion too! And if you're looking to funk it up a bit, I would line your eyes with a bold colour and flick it out in the corners. Mac Liquidlast in Aquadisiac is a must! I have several UD eyeshadows as well and they are a lot of fun! My faves are called peace and graphite! They go on so bright!

Oh hon, I know I'm still young, I just wish my eyelids knew that! Growing up in Florida in an age where sunscreen was unheard of has taken its toll.

I really appreciate all the recs. It looks like I'm headed for some UD Primer Potion first of all. I actually have worn some shadows with shimmer and really like them on, if they are in warmer colors. My eyes don't look crepey once shadow is on, they just make even application difficult, even with a great set of brushes.

I love the idea of combining matte colors with shimmer, that might be the perfect way to get great color and add a touch of shimmer without ovedoing it.

Thanks y'all, this is a huge help!

Try using eye cream under a the prep. That's a must for me. Pat with ring finger.

Sometimes, I may where a matte on the lid and a shadow with a slight shimmer on the crease. Or - I will wear matte all the way up till the brow. I will highlight the brow with shimmer.

I gave up frosty frosty shadows way back. You know the type that falls on your face with flecks of silver. I hate that. I do wear pigment to highlight light areas to give off a bit of interest. I don't like boring.

I wear all sorts of bases - paints, paint pots, shade stick, prep and prime . It just depends on my mood.

I'm 32 and still wear some frosty shadows. I've found though that MACs lustres area apin in the ass on me, well expect for Swimming for some reason it's not too glittery.

Anyway, I've found that I'm really liking the Veluxe and Satin shadows. I'm not crazy about mattes but perhaps I'll give them another shot too.

I've been using MAC paint but just got a paint pot in Painterly and love it.
