Anybody been bullied in the workplace?

There's this guy who's just obsessed with making my life a living hell, I finally told my manager about it but I don't see how it's gonna change anything. He has higher seniority over me...

Yes, and eventually he got his way (had me transferred out by upper management). After he pulled that I hired an attorney and held my former employer accountable for his (& their) actions.

Yes, and the best thing you can do is start carrying a small journal with you and document dates, times, surroundings, and what happens in each incident as clearly and concisely as possible while giving as great of detail as possible.
Then, once you've got plenty of documentation, you go to your HR department and discuss it w/them. If that doesn't work, find an attorney.

Ha! Fix his bullying arse! Go to HR or even better, if your workplace has one of those Employee Integrity Hotlines, call them. They are a big help.

Oh yes. Yes yes yes, by a woman named Cynthia. She was the spawn of Satan. I lasted 9 months enduring the hell she put me through and finally (which is big for me because I am not one to be easily bullied) I said enough. She was actually telling me I had to stay later than my scheduled shift so that she could go home. Oh hell no I wouldn't have any of that- so I stood up and left.

Never did go back.

Best decision of my life.

Your manager is an idiot if no actions are taken. That sounds like harassment to me, and it's pretty illegal for a place of business to allow it happen. Definitely document everything that happens, like Shimmer says, and try to not be too emotional or insulting towards the harasser.

1) Go to HR to file a formal complaint
2) Retain a lawyer
3) Document everything this individual does

Take it from someone who was stalked for a year, these things typically don't get better, they get worse. You need to protect yourself. Please be very aggressive about getting action taken. Be a real bitch about it.

If your manager isn't doing anything about it, escalate it and take it to the next level of management. Make sure you document EVERYTHING (dates, times, what was said/done, etc. No detail is unimportant), should you need to get yourself an attorney. Good luck!

Yes. And I got a boss over him who put an end to it. He saw and heard things he was doing against me, and told him his own job would be in jeopardy if he didn't leave me alone. The man was also spreading rumors to other departments about my attitude and work ethic that weren't true. The other boss set them straight.

Everyone is giving you very good advice. Document everything; notify your manager; if it doesn't stop, hire a lawyer and have he or she fire off a letter or two to the head of your company. Name drop the manager you spoke to about the problem and what actions, if any, he or she took to curb that behavoir.

That will usually get someone's attention.
