Allure: Confessions of a Beauty Editor, Pretty: The Nylon Book of Beautyand Making Faces are the ones I have. Allure's book is all encompasing (skin care to application + tips), Pretty is about decade styles and cult products, and Making Faces is just amazing... how to do really wild looks, apply make-up in general and features many celebrities in the photos and how they're make-up is applied.

I'd check out Amazon.com or your bookstore to find one that suits you.

I have a Marie Claire Hair and Make-up book that I like... I also have Beauty Basics by Rhona Berg... lots of good home recipes and good info about basic beauty tips and tricks... I also have Making Faces which I love. The Barnes and Noble by my house actually had a decent selection... I go and buy a coffee and brows through them for hours =)

I love The Art of Makeup (also Kevyn Aucoin) which is more of a pictorial but great makeup shots.

Way Bandy was an amazing makeup artist in the seventies. He had a book, no pictures but sketches and good tips. He did a lot of those Cosmo covers.

Bobbi Brown has some good ones. If you go to a bookstore (like Barnes & Noble) they have a little section with beauty books. One of them has like alllllll types of cosmetics descriptions & tells you what it is used for, who it works best for, etc. I forgot the name...but I know they sell it at B & N

i second the nars book. it has a lo of different makeup looks, and what the model looks like without makeup on too. it has a clear plastic page over the made up models that shows everything you use to make the look and where it goes. on the other hand i wouldn't reccomend the nylon book bbecause it's more about the actresses and not too much about makeup.

nothing to report in the + column; but a couple of ones to avoid:
Makeup Your Mind by Francois Nars ( TOTAL disappointment after reading Kevyn's books, in my opinion)
and Iman's Color book-nothing inspirational to me...

I spent along time looking for some good make up books so here are my ratings of the ones i own!

The Body Shop Make Up : 3/5
- not that amazing. For begginers I would say. A few pretty pictures and some tips here and there, but not worth buying.

Francois Nars Make Up Your Mind: 3.5/5 - Again, at first it looks like a really amazing book. It's nicely packaged with a very sheek modern cover, but I found his approch to explaining make up dull. The before and after shots are really quite scary in my oppinion. THey show loads of people with no make up on and there hair pulled back really tight and I just thought i was paying more attention to some of the broad looking chins and square faces than the make up on the right side! Also it's quite pricy for what it is.

Vogue Make Up: 4.5/5 - Really usefull tips and hints. HIghly reccommend this one. It's full of great pictures and advice. On each page there are tips from all kinds of make up artists (Kevyn A, Pat Mcgrath, Bobbie Brown ect...) I would say find this! Buy it! It's great!

I love unique looks and like you I have Kevyn Aucoins books (these are by far my favorite and the most helpfull! Don't you just love the Elizabeth Taylor/W. Ryder look he did! I tried to copy the eyeshadow but can't seem to find a creme brown just like it! If any1 does know what I'm on about pls pls let me know as I would LOVE to recreate it!) So I hope that has helped a little bit.

Lipstick: A Celebration of the World's Favorite Cosmetic by Jessica Pallingston is an interesting read. It gives lots of facts about the history of lipstick, how it is made, etc.
