Anyone try the 184 brush from Avante Gold yet?

I am wondering if the 184 brush is a good one to add to my case- 187 is such a fabulous brush, I wondered if 184 is just as valuable.

Anyone out there have any input on it? I want to know exactly what to do with it and if is it unique enough to make sure to have.

I live nowhere near a MAC counter and have to buy whatever I want sight unseen.

Thanks!

The 184 brush is great if you want a very sheer wash of color. Maybe you have a really bright cheek color and just want a hint of it, that brush is great for that or even if you have some eyeshadow fallout beneath your eyes and you need to get it off with a quick sweep, 184 is great for that too. I have one and love it!!!

So it is mostly a face brush then, right? Do you still get a decent application with it- not so little that it does not show up, right?

Yes, you still get a pretty decent app., this brush is not for coverage it is for those natural gals that really don't want to see makeup sitting on top of their face. Or, if you have put a bit too much makeup or blush on, it's great for blending product some more and getting excess off. hope I've helped.

would you say it's worth the money? how does it work with cream products?

No, I would not suggest it for cream products. It would weigh the brush hairs down. This brush is more to apply powders sheerlt or remone excess/surface makeup. Oh, and yes it's worth the money, especially b/c MAC brushes last so long.

To be honest, I don't know of anyone who uses a fan brush regularly. I only use mine if excess powder has falled below the eye and I don't have a clean blush brush handy to sweep it away. They're totally useless to use as a colour brush, as you have bugger-all control where the colour deposits and will end up with 80's power-stripe cheeks.

They're a total PITA to store, too. They get bent in brush clutches and snag easily in rolls/aprons.

Lara, you told me JUST what I needed to know- I found a $2.00 fan brush that is too soft for me to use in watercolor and I stashed it in my MU brush collection. Works just fine for me- nice and soft on the face and it has a plastic sheath on it that you just slide down to use it and slide back up to preserve it- I KNOW that MAC would not think of something THAT ingenious.......well, at least nowadays- perhaps some years ago.

Thanks for the input-I ordered an Avant Gold MSF instead.

There is a MA at my local MAC store who is an absolute fan brush fanatic. I had never given the brush much thought before but when Avant Gold came out I decided to look at it and this MA convinced me to try it. While I don't use it for applying the AG MSF (use a kabuki instead) I must say I was amazed at how sheer an application of virtually any color blush it gives. The MA had me pick the blush I thought I could least pull off (.i.e dark shade) and when she applied it it looked wonderful. She used a quick flicking technique which I have still yet to master

I guess someone must use it if MAc decided to come out with a new skunk version of it!
