Hi all

I need some help about applying foundation.I watched some videos on youtube ,i read here ,but nothing seems to help me.I ask the other day the MA in the store to show me if i'm doing something wrong.Well she wasn't very interested to help me and didnt show me - i never go in the store just to waste their time -i always buy some products.

So i will try to explain what is the problem.I begin with clean face of course. Then /first i bought Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15 Lotion Hydratante, and some other moistures not MAC/ apply moisture and leave it for like 5-10 min ,then Studio Tech with 187 -i tried with 190 also. When i'm done my face looks like hmm i'm not exactly sure how to describe it like it's pilling or very powdery.I tried Studio Fix Fluid, and Select -same results. The MA told me the other day that there is no right or wrong way to put foundation QUOTE : "the only thing that i can think of it maybe your skin it's too dry".OK maybe she is right. I told her what moisture i have ,she said you better get this - Studio Moisture Cream Hydrante and you will be ok .So i bought it.Well i have the same problem .Am i doing something wrong? The only thing that i haven't try yet it's prep + prime .Do you thing this is my missing part? I just cant continue buy stuff whatever someone in the store recommend me and to end up with the same result

.

Forgot to say yes i set the foundation with a powder but gets worse-more powdery.

Pls i really need some help.Any suggestion will be appreciate it .

I use studio tech foundation and use the 190 brush with it. I swipe the foundation with the brush twice and apply to my forehead then i blend it out then do the same thing apply it to cheeks, blend then chin blend etc all over my face then set it with blot powder using the 182 kabuki brush.

Maybe you are using too much foundation? Remember it's easier to build up the foundation easily but it's not easy to tone it down. Also don't forget to belnd it all together. Try using a primer as well that will help the foundation glide easily and not cause it to cake.

Good luck

Have you tried Fix+? It gets rid of the "powdery" look for me. First I moisturize then apply prep and prime. Then I apply my liquid foundation with the 187 brush, stippling it on and then blending. Then I set with powder. After I have set the foundation, I spritz my 187 with the Fix+ and go over my entire face in a buffing motion. This really helps to get rid of the cakey look.
HTH!

Yes i tried Fix+ not much difference.I will go and buy primer and i really hope this is what i need.
About over moisturizing i really dont know ,my cheeks are really dry not the whole face mostly the cheeks around my nose and mouth. So i concentrate the moisture there .And now that i'm thinking when i put the foundation this is the area that looks bad.But if i dont put more moisture how the foundation will be more smooth if my skin is so dry?I guess that's why i need primer.I heard many complains about MAC prep + prime so i'm thinking to get Smashbox.Any recommendations?

My mom has this problem, whatever foundation she applies she has flakes around her nose/cheeks. Definitely DONT use powder foundation or anything too matte/powdery. You need to exfoliate your skin. for primer, the Smashbox primer is fine. A foundation that is thin/light is best..

I agree with exfoliation. Try to exfoliate with a product for dry skin. Also, maybe try to find a nourishing mask or treatment for dry skin that you can use a few times a week so that you don't have to apply so much moisturizer under your foundation.
I use MAC's face primer and have never had a problem with it and I have dry, sensitive skin.
Hope my suggestions help! <3

when I get that look for foundation it's because I have either too much product or I apply with too heavy of a hand.

i think you need to exfoliate and get a moisturizing foundation. if you dont want to buy more products right now, then maybe try mixing your liquid foundation with a little moisturizer.

If you don't moisturize at night you should start. Also, use cleansers and toners for sensitive and dry skin. It should help.

maybe you're applying too much foundation. remember a little goes a long way. if you need more coverage, try a concealer before your foundation. and if your skin is peeling, maybe you should try a facial exfoliater. i dont know what moisturizure u use, but i use clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel & it works really well; not leaving my face feeling greasy.

i hope this helps!

Exactly, what other moisturizers are these, that you’re using, that are “Not MAC”, and what is their main active component that carries the moisturizer? Is it water based, lipid based (Triglycerides, sterols, ceramides, Vaseline, waxes, fats, oils, phosphatides, and phospholipids, etc., etc.)?

Sometimes your moisturizers will react adversely to your foundation.

Bottom line – Unless you’re seeing actual “Flaking” of your skin - I think what we have here is an incompatibility of products issue!

Oh, How I learned this the hard way!
What may happen, when you blend what may not want to be blended, with respect to something that is lipid-based under a water-based product is an effect that appears like a disintegration of your foundation which will ,in turn, cause your pilling (gumming up) effect.

If the product is not adhering to your skin properly, it will drag and pill. This may occur with Lipid based products on top of other lipid type products.

Keeping in mind that the Studio Tech foundation is a blend of water, emollients, and powder!

Emollients are basic moisturizers and skin barriers, which may be lipid based in nature or may have Silicones, dimethicones, and many others in them.

What I call a “Tri-System” of disaster! No offense MAC!

Also, have you tried using good ole’ fashion makeup sponges to apply your liquid type makeup?

I know many are sworn off sponges or even scared of using them for fear of wasting product, but if you wet the sponge surface before you pickup makeup with it you will eliminate most absorbsion.

VERY IMPORTANT: One has to be very careful with MAC’s Prep ‘n’ Prime since it can be very drying to the skin and for you that may be problematic. It cannot be used on the lip area!

I would ask for an ample tester amount of Prep ‘n’ Prime from your MA in an amount worth conducting your experiments around your problem dry areas for at least 3 different experiments on different days. To indeed prove that it will be successful with your various moisturizers and “new” foundation. It seems to me you may have to switch from Studio Tech to some other type - or change your moisturizer/s.

Thank you -you are making very good points .Well about changing foundation i tried Studio Fix Fluid first but the lightest shade NW15 kinda turned darker/very darker/ after 2 times using it.So i returned it .Then i tried Select in the same shade ,but it's not giving me any coverage even with concealer.I have redness on my cheeks. The shade in Studio Tech is perfect for me thats why i got it.

About MAC moisturizer it was really strange today. When i woke up i cleaned my face and then applied Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15 Lotion Hydratante .After maybe 10-15 min when i saw my face in the mirror it was like i put glue on my face and let it dry .It was that bad "flaking" pilling .And this was only around my mouth and nose.

I used this product few times before but didnt do anything for me so i stopped, but never like that.I cleaned my face again and then put MAC Studio Moisture Cream Creme Hydratante and then the pilling was almost gone.Maybe the problem is the
moisturizer? I was just looking maybe i should try Clinique 3 steps i saw they have products for my type skin-dry on the cheeks and oily t-zone.

i had this problem when i wasn't this much into make up (and that's why close up's from my engagement suck!)
i found out that high coverage foundations caused this powdery, flaky look. now i use low coverage (maybe face and body or mineralize satinfinish?) and i don't have this problem anymore. i have another problem: not enough coverage, lol!
hth.

Do you think you might be using too much moisturiser, and not giving it about 20 mins to absorb before using foundation? Either that, or maybe the moisturiser formula is not suitable for your skin.

Try using less moisturiser/allowing for more absorption time + less foundation (use more layers rather than 1 thick layer) and see how it goes.
